oracle installation problems on FC2

hi..i`m getting the following error while installing ORACLE 9i on my FC2 box... "Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall0/jre/bin/jre. Please wait... /tmp/OraInstall0/jre/bin/../lib/i686/green_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so)Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread Could not create Java VM " i have jdk & ofcourse jdk installed...how ever..the oracle setup also carries it own jre file...in the path..shown i n the above error... pliz help. Hi dhanesh, Could you please be specific on which sites u have problems with coz I can ask other admins to test them..and we'll find out whether the problem is specific or general. Well as rishi pointed out Masquerading may help...but then the purpose of caching pages is not met. Check /var/log/squid/access.log it will show u if the component has been rejected or a MISS..maybe if u could send specific logs...might clinch the problem..! I use a sify gateway to the internet..and they use a cache engine based on squid..! I'am not able to log onto http://chat.mantraonline.com the applet cannot connect to the server. Compressing CD-ROMS

I have a lot of files, which are ranged from 735mb to 1.5 gigabytes. I´d like to burn each of those files to a single cd, but they exceed the capacity of every cd(700mb max). I would be thankful if you can help me knowing any special softwares for this .... I´ve had several ideas of how to achieve this: 1. Re-encode the ones that are video files: Several of them are, but re-encoding is very time consuming and i need to free hard disk space often, plus I´m not an expert encoder and it would take time for me to learn how not to degrade the quality while re-encoding. Re-encoding is not an option. 2. Compress the ones that are data files or databases: but if I use zip software, in order to read em from the cd, it extracts the whole file to a temporary directory on my hard drive, which is time consuming. I want to be able to read the files on the fly, just like every "NORMAL" cd. So any one can guide me in this. Regards ID

Configurating the monitor etc for X

Hi Long ago there used to be a command line utility called Xconfigurator which would probe the monitor and other things and write these settings in XF86Config. This utility was there till RedHat Linux 6. Afterwards it was discontinued. I have a RedHat Linux system installed (RH 9). If I chanage the monitor, X doesn't work. because the monitror has to be configured. Is there any command line utility which can help probe and configure the monitor. I tried searcing for Xconfigurator on the net, but the rpms and srps on http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/20917/com/Xconfigurator-2.0.1-1… give the errror messsage "not an rpm package (or package manifest):" I need either Xconfigurator source code or some other similar utility. regards Abhijeet D Mhatre

Hi , I'm back with another query for a BSP.....N= FS mounting. I have configured everything correctly. For booting, via Grub, instead of using DHCP,BOOTP or RARP , I'm just p= assing kernel command line arguments, like : root (hd0, 0) kern= el /boot/bzImage rw root=/dev/nfs nfsroot=.... ip=..... = The kernel boots fine, it takes in almost all the parameters correctly, lik= e, bootserver, rootserver, nfsserver, host ip, host name, gateway ip, etc, = etc...... However, the parameter rootpath= is left blank. The error following this is as follows, VFS:Cannot open root dev= ice "nfs" ro 00:ff Please append a correct "root=&qu= ot; boot option. Hello Luggers, Does anyone know how to do = a NFS mount WITHOUT using tftp or dhcp or bootp? I have a kern= el compiled on a client machine having NFS support. I have a Embedded= root filesystem ready on the Nfs server and I have already exported its co= ntents. portmap, nfsd and mfslock are running on the Nfs serve= r. Now, if I mistake not, by passing appropriate arguments to = the bootloader (i.e.Grub in my case), we can make the kernel from the clien= t machine boot and mount the remote root filesystem(residing on the server) Is this actually possible? Lets reach on consensus , and we hold the 8 th august meet at Onward Novell. let our luggers learn more on Novell. I totally disagree with Sir. Nagarjuna with all my respect for him, abt Redhat distributing CDs and other media, after all its a part of an exchange, and exchange between the Industry and our community, what use would this community would be of if we keep our selfs Isolated from the Industry. Our vision says knowledge sharing, which includes knowledge sharing with the Academicians, Industry, GNU users, Developers, and all of them whom we can think of. If Redhat can attract few more users by distributing freebies whats the hitch. let fools come to collect freebies, and the wise come to collect knowledge. About every months meetings my point of view would be:- 1. every alternate month lets keep our meeting in some of the leading academic colleges, so that more awareness can instilled among students, for they are the ones who shall carry this GNU movement further. (Remember catch them Young) 2. the alternative month venue could be any where, would be a good idea if its with the industry, and major open source players like novell and redhat. (So Novell India meet on 8th is an excellent Idea). for which some of us should really take initiative and help in organizing at various but different venues. According to Manojit Majumdar, who heads sales & marketing at ELX India, "With PC users being so accustomed to Windows interface ELX Linux has invested tremendous effort in making the BizDesktop as close as possible to Microsoft's Windows. The results are encouraging: we have managed to create a virtual emulator of sorts that clones most Windows functions perfectly." This is directed at eliminating concerns whether one would be able to adapt to this OS after using Windows. The desktop comes with Mozilla, OpenOffice, GIMP (Linux's answer to Adobe), project management software and graphical tools. BizDesktop also integrates WINE that enables users to install and run many Windows native applications. A single CD installs the entire OS. "...BizDesktop can more strongly emulate Windows than Red Hat desktop. For e.g. right click pop-ups, zipping procedures, etc. are all exactly the same in BizDesktop as in Windows. We have also added a launch pad feature that accumulates a users favourite and most frequently accessed application set in one single window. Samba has been configured in such a way, that users can run multiple OS' including Windows on the same client. It will be 8-9 months before any Linux distro can catch up with us", says Majumdar. 30 desktops at the Hyderabad High Court were converted from Microsoft to BizDesktop 4.0. They had tested Red Hat Linux on the desktop front earlier, but continued to use Windows. BizDesktop 4.0 was mapped to match their requirements and the deal was bagged. NIC was the technology advisor for the Hyderabad High Court deal. With the success of the project, NIC has added ELX on its Linux vendor list, which previously consisted of Red Hat, SuSE and Sun. Gurgaon-based DLF is also in the process of negotiating a deal with ELX. BizDesktop follows a differential nomenclature to avoid any patent issues. For e.g., instead of 'My Documents', we have 'My Docs'. Similarly, the 'Network Neighborhood' icon has been replaced by 'My Network'. The Control Panel gives exactly the same kind of GUI interface that Windows offers, allowing users to add/delete software/hardware in exactly the same way. ELX has tied up with LG in Hyderabad for bundling BizDesktop on their desktops and the company has already set up sales and support offices in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi. BizDesktop 4.0 is available for Rs. 500 (plus taxes). The company has plans to tie-up with courier company GATI to provide a Cash On Delivery (COD) option to users placing orders from remote locations in the country.

I had open office 1.0 before upgrading FC-1 to FC-2. Due to this upgradation open office got upgraded to open office 1.1.1. I am doing a project which is dealing with Localization of RDBMS (Postgresql). so I have to use some Hindi data in documentation or reports. but this new open office was not supporting it as previous one was. so I decided to install open office 1.1.2 with hindi support. but this is also not working with Hindi data. the problem is same. open office responces very slowly. also overall speed of the system has degraded after upgrading FC-2. Even I uninstalled open office & checked speed for other applications( like starting up mozilla, gedit, ayttm etc..) but it was not as good as it was in FC-1. Tally Problem

I've partinioned my hard disk such that I've got winxp on hda1: loaded Tally on this partion. Loaded wine on fedora2 and mounted the windows partition on /mnt/win Accessed Tally through wine /mnt/win/Tally?tally.exe Tally works fine and I can create a new company. Problem arrises when I try to port the old tally data into this the same directory (The old data was entered through windows) it does not port. Any Ideas as to what could be the problem ? Hello Luggers, Does anyone know how to do = a NFS mount WITHOUT using tftp or dhcp or bootp? I have a kern= el compiled on a client machine having NFS support. I have a Embedded= root filesystem ready on the Nfs server and I have already exported its co= ntents. portmap, nfsd and mfslock are running on the Nfs serve= r. Now, if I mistake not, by passing appropriate arguments to = the bootloader (i.e.Grub in my case), we can make the kernel from the clien= t machine boot and mount the remote root filesystem(residing on the server) Is this actually possible? Dual Boot Problem

Hi I Have install My winXp on my C drive which is primary partion & have install suse 8.2 on logical partion of same HDD. now if I want to Remove Suse from my HDD without disturbing XP ,how should I do that . coz if I remove suse by deleting it from my XP disk Manager then every thing goes right but when I restart my computer it sows me grub error. & I Cant Access my WinXP. Thats is why, when you make a system dual-boot, the first thin= g you do is make sure that both the boot loaders (grub and ntloader) are in= dependant...using chainloading. Thus, when we remove one OS, t= he other OS is completely independant and all you have to do is remove the = deleted OS's entry from the existing bootloader. Now, you can = try by booting into XP with a bootable cd and giving fixmbr at the pr= ompt. Hi Guys, I've downloaded the tar.gz of Open Office 1.1.2 from the openoffice.org website... However, I'm not able to get it start really quickly. I noticed that the Open Office that comes bundled along with Debian (deb) came another separate package called 'oooqs-kde' package... i have problems connecting to exatt isp using rp-pppoe i did the procedures such as installing rp-pppoe, adsl-start and adsl-status all seem to work perfectly.. even adsl-status gives me the output that i see in windows when i type ipconfig/all i did even check the pap-secrets and chap-secrets(both are same with the login id and password) but the problem is that i am not able to surf the web or ping any websites. can someone help me with this? -- For Every Beginning there is an End... FC2 acting funny !

Hello ppl, I had installed FC2 on my machi= ne and it was working fine for a week. While I was away, it seems tha= t someone has messed around with it. I have a SCSI tape drive along w= ith SCSI hard drive installed on the same machine. Now, the funny part is t= hat, till last week FC2 was working fine; presently When I reboot, my machi= ne boots from the SCSI tape drive. I have checked the "grub.conf"= as well as "/etc/fstab" There seems to be no probs. there.= What could be the problem ? Any help would be appreciated. Server too slow high loadavg

Dear ALL, I have been using apache-1.3,php-4.0,horde-2.0,imp-3.0 on HP BL350, with 4GB ram, 4CPU with no issuses. But when I upgraded to php-4.3,horde-2.2.5, imp-3.2.3 on same machine it is dead slow i am not able to login to horde, it logs me out and when i see loadavg its 11. What could be the problem? The problem is that the /etc/resolv.conf is not updates automatically. So for that add these lines to this files nameserver 202.138.97.193 nameserver 202.138.96.2 ** Incase u r using an LG handset to improve the speed slightly increase the baud rate in the handset. and also in /sbin/rconnect file....
