Need a near entry-level APGDST/PGDST from NCST or at least a BE (Computer Science). Have an immediate interesting Mac project to execute. Need the foll. skills: 1. Java, Swing ,awareness of event-handling and threads. 2. RDBMS database design, normalization, query design and very basic database administration. We plan to use PostgreSQL. 3. A minimum amount of XML programming will be eventually required and must be learned on the job if not possessed already. Why Mac? The client has a network of Macs. The applications look and feel much cooler than Windoze, GNOME or KDE. Still, OS X is a Unix/BSD/Linux cousin and most of our knowledge and milieu still applies. This project is on Macintosh under the latest Mac OS X Panther. It will be an Aqua (the cool OS X look-n-feel) application. The Cocoa object-oriented lib. framework has a vast library of pre-build objects, using system-wide services and the Aqua graphical environment. Java support for Cocoa is built-in to OS X. We will develop an OS-independent back-end code base with Java and integrate it into the OS X environment. The current project needs three interacting applications: A Product tracker, Inventory system and Accounting system, which we must build. We expect a lot of Mac projects coming our way. The programmer will build a in-demand skill. India's art, cash rich media, ad and even the film industry is very Mac-aligned. Baji J. hello guys well when i attended the last Lug-meet an idea struck me back then when Prof.Nagarjun was explaining why its GNU/linux and not just linux. Also there was a nice response for the documentation and Gnoware cd's. what if we guys make a cd of GNU applications that run on windows,applications like open-office, the gimp etc... we can distribute this cd's which will effectively answer the question why its GNU/linux and also most of the people who use windows and are rather skeptical about Gnu-linux can get the feel of what its like.it will effectively solve their doubts and thus promote linux system. Please do react to the news items in Loksatta on 9th(main paper also on internet edition) and 11 May ( in city supplement called mumbai vrittant). Please discount the fact hat Jitendra Shah is projected but see to the extent GNU is. I had sent a write up which contains my name only once. But perhaps we may have to leave it to the fact the journalists do exaggerate persons rather than the content. For the rest I would like to get the reaction as to possible help luggers may want to give at the content level or at operational level in spreading the use of GNU/Linux. In the absence of concerted efforts by GNU community, commercial 'Linux' versions will fill the vacuum. I will consider even that as a positive step. -jitendra

Hello Luggers/GNUer's I have implemented Technoinfosys SBS Server 2004 at my office.We use it for proxy,natting,mail,file server etc.I have 50 users on the network configured for fetching mail from the server.Every time i have to manually check all the account for downloading the messages.Is there any way that fetchmail checks all the servers by itself every 30 or 60 minutes.Can a small script be written which can automate the process.Even half hearted clues will be appreciated. setfont and X

Hi, I change the default font of a user a/c by this line in .bashrc script. setfont default8x9 This works fine, but as soon as goto X(ALT+F7) and then come back to text console the font changes to the default system font. I have tried to change the default system font in /etc/sysconfig/i18n. But if i do that then on text console, when the screen becomes full the next line after the last line scrolls off below the screen and I cant see what i am typing. I have another system where i have changed the system font in /etc/sysconfig/i18n and it works fine. Both have the same distro RH9. PDA + Phone + Linux sync sw

Hi Guys, My boss wants a state of the art / latest / greated PDA + Phone that works in US and India + bundled software to sync with the GNU/Linux operating system. He is going to the US tonight and will buy it from there. Anyone that has done R&D on this topic and can suggest a model I should tell him to buy, would be super. For the past 1 hour I've been on Google, LinuxDevices, Palm.com and Nokia.com and have got even more confused on what I should recommend/suggest. ;-) Any help would be great. My goal is to prevent him from buying a product that would require him to switch (dual boot) into Windows just so that he can sync his PDA with the computer for data entry. I've not had much success with the PDA sync tools on GNU/Linux with his notebook. Probably got something to do with the USB / Serial Port thingy.. Regards Rishi

Dear Dilip, For a network instalation make two disks 1. with bootdisk image 2. with netdrv image at the boot: prompt type boot: linux askmethod after a few screens you will be asked for the which method to go for. Few necessary checks: 1. Disable/Modify the firewall on you server 2. Start DHCP incase you will be assigning client IP's using DHCP. And please try the installation using FTP, with anonymous login.....I was'nt able to do that..! I was able to install using FTP source using a VLU. Hi, Hey how could i make a bootnet.img for redhat 9 ?? there is no "bootnet.img" at images dir !! I tried from preparing the bootnet.img of redhat 8 , but it failed saying that "The Second stage of install which you have selected does not match the boot disk your using..." I prepared the 'bootnet.img' from redhat-8 CD like this: # dd if=/mnt/cdrom/images/bootnet.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k count=1 I believe this is correct !! -Dilip -- Sorry for my engalish....it not my mother tongue ;) -----------

Fellas, Was working with some close source tools and just got struck by the idea for a "Generic Connection Pooling and Session Optimisation" applications which are gpl'ed. This product in question is knows to work for *any* tcp/udp based session across routers and will optimise link usage. Any options that FLOSS offers or...need we write one???. what should i use to index my docs/site???

Afternoon all, I am in need of an engine to index my whole site and about >2GB of docs(PDF/HTML/DOC/XLS...etc). Have tried htdig/asearch which both take the machine down and just can't scale to the size of file-store to be indexed. Would appreciate some pointers. Thanks in advance.
