wlan to lan to internet

I have a machine w/ kubuntu w/ a wlan0 (runing w/ ndiswrapper) connecting to the net via braodband modem. I now want to connect my laptop to the net thru the broadband modem via the wifi. I followed this link: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-274790-highlight-adhoc+wireless.html I managed to get the laptop talking to the kubuntu machine and I can even browse the net on the laptop. The problem is that I have lost internet connectivity on the kubuntu machine :( . No ping, no web access, zilch. I have the follwoing setup: modem <-> (pub.lic.I.P) PC <-> wifi (192.168.1.202) <-> (192.168.1.204) laptop I have made the requisite changes in the commands shown on this page. where is the problem ? do I need any changes to this line ? route add -net 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 gw 10.0.1.1 I've changed it to route add -net 0.0.0.0 netmask 0.0.0.0 gw 192.168.1.202 regards, Sharukh -- Dr. Sharukh K. Hi, I recently got hold of the latest prototype of the above data logger that is being manufactured by a Mumbai firm. In looks it is an unimpressive rectangular box without a display. It is meant purely for logging trackpoints and waypoints. It claims to be 32 channel and has 4 MB RAM. It has 1. power/lo battery LED 2. Satellite LED - glows red on satellite acquisition 3. Computer/Memory full LED 4. Waypoint LED 1. Power button 2. Computer button 3. Waypoint button It runs on a Nokia cell phone battery and can be charged with a standard nokia charger. There is a serial port and a screw to attach an antenna. The antenna comes with a 3 metre cable and has a powerful magnet. A serial cable is provided with two outlets - one for downloading the GPS data and the other for direct instrument to computer reading. The cable also has a bell-push for recording waypoints. Usage: in a car, stick the antenna on the roof, the instrument inside and tape the way point bellpush to the steering wheel - similar arrangement for a bike. Walking, keep the unit in a pocket, the antenna in a shirt pocket and the waypoint bell push in your hand. Getting data: Connect to a PC using a serial-usb cable. Type cat /dev/ttyUSB0 > filename.txt, and the data is transferred. I had walked around on the footways of a park with the device this morning in heavily overcast conditions with heavy tree cover - the paths marked here are without tweaking - just join-the-dots: http://openstreetmap.org/edit?lat=16.6938&lon=74.4613&zoom=18 Incidentaly the device also has the logo of FSF India on the top, so I suppose this signifies that everything in the device is free software. debian mirror (lenny)?

Hi, does anyone have a full/partial debian mirror ( dists - lenny , arch - i386/amd64 )? or anyone have fat (& unlimited bandwidth) to update one ( I have a june 2007 one - total download required would be about 20GB - binary only ). problem updating lenny mirror on slow pipe is by the time mirror is half update, a quarter of it would have already changed!.. actually i got my answer. yes it does require a server like VNC-server or any remote desktop server. Actually if you use CentOS [or any other distro for that matter] , it will automate the remote desktop access feature for you. The CentOS remote desktop app is quite configurable as well. but one more thing. how do i get a remote desk top. do i need to install a VNC in server also? to get this. if yes then is it possible to get a remote desktop without installing any thing to server? I cant really understand your question. However from what I understand, you want to find out whether the remote computer you are trying to connect from needs any additional software. [ Please correct me if I am wrong ]. Using a package called vnc-java , You can access your computer from any location that has a Java -enabled web browser. Installing a web server

Hi I have downloaded Apache2.2.9 tar file.The instalation guide asks me to copy the tar file in /usr/local/directory.but i am not able to do it because it says I don't have any rights since i am not in root.Also I tried to do in my own directory.This is what i did: I unzipped the tar file of Apache(its name being httpd-2.2.9.tar.bz2) in my own directory.Then using terminal i connected directory by 'cd' then did ./configure. After that it does lots of checking and then i did 'make' and after lots of procedure i did 'make install'.These were the instructions given in the LINUX FOR YOU magazine in one of the articles regarding setting up web servers.But then how do i know my server has started, Then anyone could anyone guide me with PHP5.2.6 installation in short word. I also want to install MySQL.I wanted one more advice which databse platform is better MySQL or SQlLite.I dont know the difference.Thank you for the efforts for reading these.Please help i hav tried almost all the sources and i am a newbie in linux and have installed UBUNTU_8.04 Thanks and Regards, Prasad G Prabhu TE COMPUTERS VESIT MUMBAI.

who moved Mumbai?

Hi, I was editing the OSM map in the Juhu area, and found that, compared to the yahoo image and to the existing traces, the whole map seems to have slipped a good way south and slightly east also. I checked other parts of the map and find the same error every where. Since the existing GPS traces also coincide with the Yahoo map, I think that somehow someone has moved the whole map of Mumbai south and east. It may also be because my laptop has low memory or something, but i doubt it as I do not see the same problem in Delhi, Bangalore or Chennai. hi, today i was trying to boot centos live cd. I'm using MSI mobo, 512 Ram and Intel dualcore. If you can boot in verbose mode , you can tell us where exactly the boot process is halting. may i get centos DVD. This is from the CentOS Website. DVD's ----- DVD's are normally available for each version, but the ISO files are not normally included in the ISO directory. You can download the CentOS DVD's via bittorrent. This is because of the following reasons: 1. Files greater than 2 GB are not served properly buy the default apache included in CentOS (and many other distros), so external (public) CentOS mirrors would end up with large files that they could not serve taking up space on thier servers. 2. Including all DVDs in the mirror would increase the size of the CentOS mirror by 50% (it would be 1.5 x current). As we continue to release new arches and support for new versions, this would cause the size of CentOS to become to large; reducing the number of people who could mirror it for us externally. how i'll perform remote desktop feature in it. Cent OS live cd not booting

hi, today i was trying to boot centos live cd. I'm using MSI mobo, 512 Ram and Intel dualcore. i faced following problem. 1. it boots normally but after some after booting its not showing menu. when i press alt+f2 launcher does not open. 2. when i tryed this cd in diffrent computer it stops at starting. it only shows "ready". and after that hangs up. i have some other query too. 3. may i get centos DVD. 4. how i'll perform remote desktop feature in it. thank you.

I installed Ubuntu on a senior writer's machine to get him rid of Windows. He is comfortable and happy, but when he uses SCIM to type in Hindi and takes print-out, all he gets on paper is boxes.
