remote MYSQL connection error

Hi i am trying to connet to a mysql databse whose servers IP is( 203.1123.28.111 ) from a remote PC and get the following errors [root@server ~]# mysql -h 203.1123.28.111 -u root -p Enter password: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 203.1123.28.111 (113) Also on the server i cannot stop the firewall setting cuse of security reasons ..... most of the help on line say that the problem is resolved if the server's fire wall is disabled . Hi Al I have a postfix server and have a query on its functioning : What is the difference between Local Delivery Agent ( LDA ) and virtual delivery agent ... Do these two daemons work simultaneously.In my main.cffile i have thne following statements #virtual_transport=virtual ....... does this men that the LDA is not running. ?? My second question is what is spawn then following is an extract i got from the net , but if some one can give me a an explination in a more understandable language ( spawn The spawn process creates non-Postfix processes on request. Setting up PPPoE connection on Debian

Hi list, I'm using a PPPoE connection to connect to my ISP - worldnet. (it's what's commonly referred to as "cablewalla ka net"). Under Windows I use the RASPPPOE protocol. I've been able to connect to it under Fedora using the nice "system-config-networking" tool. Under Debian I couldn't find any GUI tool. There is a command-line tool called "pppoeconf". I've performed the steps given on this site: http://users.pandora.be/Asterisk-PBX/PPPoE.htm The strange thing is that although this utility prompts for username and password, it doesn't give an option to select the Access-Concentrator and Service-Provider name. (The list of service-providers and access-concentrators can be obtained using pppoe-discovery). This is what I get in the system log: Sep 8 11:06:50 localhost pppd[3973]: Plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded. [CROSS-POST]: Cursor theme selection disables GUI

List, I was trying out cursor themes in Kubuntu and changed it to a theme that was called "X Cursor themes" or so. I selected it and logged out to set the current cursor theme as "X cursor theme". However, the file seems to be missing and Kubuntu disables starting X because, it is unable to find the file. I'm clueless about which file it (cursor) has manipulated that instructs it to load the cursor when it has to start the GUI. Alternatively, if it is possible, can I change the cursor them from the CLI? I tried disabling the InputDevice (mouse, cursor) by commenting them in /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that mouse is disabled and then, I could just reset the cursor theme, but that fails as well. Problem setting date in debian "testing" with KDE 3.5

Hello, I have a peculiar problem with my system date. I'm using debian "testing" with KDE 3.5. When i set the date, either through the KDE control center, or through the backend using the "date" command (as root ofcourse), it gets reset everytime i reboot my m/c. Btw, i have a hp (Compaq nc6400) lappy. Actually, the problem seems to be with the locale. In control center, if i set the time, with the locale, after a reboot, the same time is shown as UTC. Whereas, if i set the UTC time through the "date command" (i don't know how to pass locale to date command, so i'm assuming that it sets the UTC time), then after reboot, the UTC time itself moves 5.5 hrs ahead :( Thanks a lot in advance. regards, Pradnyesh.

Hi I have a issue here, i have a postfix server that uses mapping files to query the database. In my senerio i have a domain called niteshn.info. and i have a mapping file in /etc/postfix called mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf which ahs the following content --> user = postfix password = postfix hosts = 127.0.0.1 dbname = postfix query = SELECT goto FROM alias WHERE address='%s' AND active = 1 In my main.cf file i have a entry -----> virtual_alias_maps = mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf When i query this database with the postmap command i get the following error : postmap -q -v "@niteshn.info" mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql_virtual_alias_maps.cf (enter) postmap: fatal: open database @niteshn.info.db: No such file or directory how do i check is my mapping files work??? -- Warm Regards Agnello .
