Hello All, TurboCash is a GPLed accounting software. At present it is available only on the $dose platform. Could accounting experts on the list have a look at the website to provide more inputs on its usefulness for Indian businesses, small and big? Since it is an 84 MB download, it looks big. List, RMS[1] was in Mumbai last year in August. (27th August 2006, to be precise). A session was organized by FSF-India and GNU/Linux User Group of Mumbai, on Free Software, Free Knowledge and Free Society. This year, President of FSF-I Georg Greve[2] was in Mumbai and delivered a talk on Free Software and Science (on Thursday, 7 June 2007). 1. Does anyone from the list, has the video archives of the above two sessions? 2. Can they be shared and re-distributed? 3. If it can be, is it available on YouTube or online media? (not others, the above ones specifically) (better if it is available on a DVD or CD) 4. Apart from this, if anyone has audio archives of sessions by RMS, please let me know. (point 2 applicable) I'm asking this because, a few who might be interested in Free Software, might find it exciting to watch a video by the pioneer of Free Software. I used an IBM T series before this for a few years & that was MUCH better with linux. Also Toshiba is not very linux friendly company in terms of drivers & updates etc if you take a look at their updates site. Hi all, I am planning to buy a laptop. Model: Toshiba Satellite(r) A135-S2386 Is this machine penguin-friendly or atleast, not unfriendly? Particularly, is it Beryl-friendly? Any allergies to FC6/7 ? I am keen to try out FCx more seriously now. [OT] Lightning protection for ethernet ports?

Hello All, The rains have hardly begun and my client's mobo was its first casualty. Its on-board LAN got zapped by lightning through the cable internet while the pc was off. Fedora 7 installation: completely unexpected results

List, One of my friend, by the name Tapas, installed Fedora 7 yesterday. The experience was something that isn't expected by a mature and quality distribution like Fedora 7. The experiences mentioned in the article (review) at the following URL by the author is almost what Tapas experienced. http://www.linux.org/dist/reviews/fedora7.html Though the author of this article managed to setup things on his own (/boot/grub/menu.lst etc.), Tapas had to reboot quite a few times for his boot menu to be displayed with windows. Apart from that, none of the other hdd partitions were automatically detected and mounted. Migrating Apache.

Hi. I'm in the process of migrating apache from RH9 to FC5. Its a cgi-perl driven website. Also has ssl certs. Here is how I would go about it. 1. Copy the entire document root to the new box. 2. Copy /etc/conf directory to the new box. 3. Copy the ssl certs. Am I missing something? I know its simple, but like to have inputs from people who have done it. I'm going to format the old box before installing the new OS, so I have to be absolutely sure. Regards, NMK.

Mounting proc filesystem: [failed] /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line 90: 42 Segmantation fault LC_ALL=C grep -q .initrd /proc/mounts Confuguring kernel parameters: Error: /proc must ve mounted To mount /proc at boot you need an /etcfstab line like: /proc /proc proc defaults In the meantime, mount /proc /proc -t proc [failed] Setting clock (localtime): Fi Jan 23 09:06:35 MST 2004 [ ok ] Loading default keymap (us): [ ok ] Setting hosname mgserver.net: [ ok ] /etc/rc,d/rc.sysinit: line 182: 65 Segmentation fault LC-ALL=C grep -iq"nousb" I know RH9 is old, but lets not debate on that for now. Checked all hardware, raid, disks, even replaced RAM. So not a hardware issue. Gives same error while booting to single user mode too. Able to boot to rescue mode. Examined fstab. Has proper proc line. Grub is set up fine too, Did nothing special to trigger the error. Was getting segfaults with grep, rebooted, got stuck. Consulted lots of experts, google, RH kbase. No go. Hello All, At the recent speech by Mr. George G. of FSF Europe in HBCSE, he mentioned a very important point which I liked and want to pass on to those who did not attend. He explained..... In today's world knowledge is getting more and more digitized. Due to this digitization, it is the major Corporates that are controlling access to this knowledge through software code. In a Democracy where information (knowledge) should flow freely and be accessible to all, this control of knowledge by the software giants is dangerous and unwanted. This is even more important for the Governments to ensure that third parties do not control their data. Therefore its is absolutely necessary that Governments of Democratic Nations adopt free software and formats in order to safeguard their data and get it out of the clutches and control of the corporate entities. -- Regards, Rony. As the subject says is IE6.5 or higher w3c compliant and how compliant are other browsers in displaying a w3c compliant page. Basically there is a conflict going on at a potential client since one of the vendors wants that crap to run so that his app which is browser based can function. If the o/p of his app is w3c compliant FF / Konqueror / lynx should work properly and he shouldnt care what runs on a client. Since the vendor is a software giant and i will be kicking ass, i want to make sure. google throws up pages of irrelevant (almost) stuff. On a related note are there standrds for xml and does M$ push it's own version. -- Rgds JTD

Can not login in KDE

I am Debian Etch user. Last day onwards i am not able to login in KDE ( GUI ) with normal user. but console login was successful. I created new user but stilll not worked. I enabled ROOT login by editing /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc. So i am able to login with ROOT in GUI Syslog shows following error can't save user authentication in home directory. -- With Regards Abhishek Amberkar There is no operating system but GNU, and Linux is one of its kernels.
