Issues with .DOC files ..please help..!

I am using fedora core 5. I have my apache running perfectly. I have document root as /var/www/html There is a direcory "transfer" inside "/var/www/html" But when I put any *.doc file in "transfer", no one can access it. But they can access PDF files and all other files from the same directory , with same permissions set on all files.I tried settin chmod 755 on the files again. Still pdf, zip etc files go perfect , no luck with .doc files. I also upgraded to latest version of Apache too(2.2.2), still not working. I also tried lighttpd as suggested by a friend, same problem there. Also I am not able to upload .doc files as mail attachments in gmail/yahoo mail using Opera/Firefox/Konqueror. I can attach all other types of files though. So basically, its like .doc files are not going out of my box to anyone in any manner....I have disabled SElinux at boot itself. I am at my wits end...dunno what to do..please help. -- The Future is Open...The Future is LINUX

Or find out your old paper stocks in the store-room ;) But the Acer Showroom (in SION) didn't know what Linux distribution was installed on the Laptop! :) (I had called up only to ask that!) Linix on Laptop.

Hello Everyone, I am zeroing in on an Acer Laptop for my family's usage. The model is TravelMate 2428NWXCi http://www.acer.co.in/products/notebooks/tm2420.html The sole purpose will be internet, email and office suite. I would like to know how this laptop fares with linux and which distro works best on it. I specially plan to make use of the wireless LAN, so does it work out of the box or does it need some hours of sweat and hard work? What are user experiences for this model? Hi all, Those of you who are slashdot regulars probably know this but those who don't : Hans Reiser the author of the ReiserFS file system is going to give his plea(guilty/not guilty/manslaughter .....) today(actually tonight as its in California) over the charge of his wife's murder. Checking hard disk health

Hi all, Is a clean chit from badblocks enough to rule out hard disk damage? fsck had earlier reported errors but they were only errors related to fs inconsistencies, not hdd errors. hardware locks -- linux support

I have an old version of a windows database program for Homoeopathic medicine repertorisation. If you are curious take a look at http://www.hompath.com/ Now this is a windows only program and comes as an installable cd w/ a HASP hardware lock (which can either be parallel port or USB type). I checked out the alladin site at http://www.aladdin.com/support/hasp/hasp4/linuxdrv.asp for linux drivers and the only drivers they have are for Suse 8.x, 9.x and RedHat 8.x and 9.x according to the readme that came w/ the download. My question is has anybody been able to get these locks recognised under linux ? The problem is doubly compounded as I would like to run the program under wine. Datacards and GNU/Linux...

It would be nice if hackers in the GNU/Linux community could help to spread awareness about data-cards, laptops and GNU/Linux. As you know, data-cards are increasingly becoming a way of getting Net access via your laptop in anywhere, anytime mode. Hence they could have growing relevance. LFY carried an article in its July 2006 issue, offering detailed instructions of how an Airtel Sierra Card can be made to work with GNU/Linux. But, as things stand, many of the cards are unsupported. I tried a ZTE (made-in-China card) with Reliance on Ubuntu, and it just refused to work. Sierra cards are out of stock with Reliance here, I was told, though given alternate information earlier. Airtel says Sierra isn't available, and were offering a Vodafone datacard, which proudly says "Airtel Data card works on Windows 2000/XP/XP Tablet/XP Pro". If you know of any option (keeping in mind that I live in Goa, with limited hardware availability) please share your notes with me. I really need a datacard to get access to mobile computing, specially when travelling. The most extensive damaged was of course to his LAN card, his board was too a little parched, but was fully repaired thanks to a genius at Lamington Road. LDAP ???

I hv. 6 servers having 1 GB ram and using RH9. I hv. created 50 users averagely on each server. Also i hv. 200 thin clients. The users are accessing their logins created on server thru. X on thin clients. If any user login have some problem then i hv. to search the login on each servers. Can LDAP be useful in this case for common authenticaion ? If yes, suggest me some pointers , urls - JAGDISH.
