How to Create a Makefile which supports on Xwindow

Hi, I would like to know how can i change my makefile so that i can run it on X Window Environment. My makefile is perfectly working in Shell, but i need to either compile it into xwindow environment or is there any way i can change my makefile so that it can be run in xwindow environment. Grub issue

I have two hard disks. THe hard disk which is connected as slave has grub on its mbr. and has a windows xp installation, running along with ubuntu 5.10. The other disk(connected as master) has only a windows xp installation. I want to be able to boot into either of these 3 os installations (ubuntu and xp on slave and xp on master) from the grub. So i made the slave hard disk as my 1st boot device. Now i can boot into xp and ubuntu of the slave deive easily. But when i try and boot into the xp installation of the master disk, it boots into the xp installation of slave only. The entry for the master xp installation in menu.lst is as follows root (hd1,0) makeactive savedefaults chainloader +1 I have added this entry myself. COuld anyone suggest what the problem could be?? -- Puneet

opensource projects for training trainees ...

why cant companies give development hands on practice by making trainees work on some opensource project. That way the trainees can get to see some real community approved style of coding. That will improve their coding skills and technique also. Its like the trainees having the whole opensource community as mentors.. till they are ready to work on internal projects that is. After which it depends on the company policy whatever. Steven -- Life would have been a lot more easier if we could look at the source code.

CyberCafe - Time Bounded User Control.

Dear All, recently one of my friend came to me and asked to setup a proxy server for his cyber cafe, though the setup and configuration is not an issue but the control/management of user with time boundation is!!! what I mean is He need to have time bounded user access, as what happens in cybercafe is a user comes in, a username and password is provided to him with a validity in time e.g. 1Hrs., 2Hrs. etc as per the charge and time decided by the cafe owner and requested by the user, so I am looking for such a tool which can do the same for such a cybercafe based on squid and linux as a platform. In this regard I need help from you to guide me if there is such a tool exists or some pointer to acheive this. regards, Bimal Pandit

GRUB, MBR and NTLDR confusion

Hi I have 2 hard disks. /dev/hda(primary) and /dev/hdb(slave) 40gb each. I have been facing a problem of bootloaders when installed on the MBR. To be safe and avoid any further problems I have decided to go with ntldr the windows bootloader. My first hdd has Win XP Slack 10.2 and FC3. The 2nd hd is solely for experimentation and contains Ubuntu 5.10 only. Whilst googling for information I found that GRUB can be loaded on to the boot partition instead of the MBR and also ona floppy or CD. Now my problem is I do not have a seperate boot partition. In turn whilst installing ubuntu I installed GRUB on /dev/hdb2. I created a linux.bin file by issuing dd if=/dev/hdb2 of=/linux.bin bs=512 count=1 and copied it to C:\ and also added it to boot.ini and named it as linux. When I start the pc I get this option along with the windows XP option but on selecting it the system hangs with a constant beeping sound. Is there any other solution? Have I gone wrong somewhere? I do not want to install GRUB on to MBR but instead use the ntldr to boot Linux Currently I am booting by inserting the first cd of the slackware and issuing the boot command with the root as the specific partition Thanks and Regards Ninad Bapat

Hi all, I have a 2 yr old PC with the following specs: ASUS A7V8X-MX SE Motherboard (mATX) AMD Athlon XP 2600+ VIA KM 400 Chipset 256 MB RAM (DDR 266) 40 GB HDD MATX cabinet, 240 W power supply As this is an mATX motherboard so I was wondering if I can install this Motherboard in an ATX cabinet. Rony had advised me to try editing the printer selector in each application. I tried doing this with Mozilla, but cannot see the right way to edit the module using a line editor. Siddhesh also asked whether I was setting up OpenOffice for the printer, but I haven't done this, nor can I see how it is done. The OpenOffice installation was done long before the printer arrived. In case this is a very small fix, please mail me separately to avoid list noise, or point me to a faq where this is fully explained. Vickram

Light weight google Calendar

I was wondering how to extract data from the body of a HTTP 200 ok Header using PHP. What I am trying to do is to write a light weight GUI that connects to google Calendar[www.google.com/calendar] ! Why do this : Simple my cellphone does not support AJAX and I want to be able to update the calendar on the move from my cell !! I am sending the username along with password and a couple of other variables that google needs , to their authentication url [ http://francis.byethost22.com/googlelogin.php ] . In response it sends back a Auth token which I need to place in a cookie . How on god's green earth do I extract the token !! Francis . Warm Summerr !!

In the same way that, if I said I am not part of the Indian cricket team I would not convey any hatred towards Indian cricket. :D Being a member of a GLUG (there IS a difference between a LUG and a GLUG, however subtle that maybe), we are expected to be aware of the differences between these various entities and terms. Otherwise how are we going to spread awareness about GNU/Linux. I found many of my fellow members refer to "the GNU utilities being used by Linux". Well that is again a mistake. Linux is the kernel which is a part of the whole operating system, which the GNU project, sponsored by the FSF started. There are other GNU based systems that use other kernels. eg., GNU/Hurd. Yeah it is true Hurd is still far from being complete, but that is again another matter. It is not a matter of a GNU/Linux vs. Linux warfare, it is just about getting the record straight. Linus Torvalds should get full credit for developing such a wonderful monolithic kernel, and releasing it under the GNU GPL. Similarly RMS should be credited with spearheading other components of the system. Namely the compiler (GCC), a text editor (GNU Emacs), the debugger (GDB), the shell (GNU Bash), a desktop environment (GNOME), the bootloader (GRUB) and so on. These are very important parts of the system without which Linux would not have been able to survive. The other way round is true also. So honestly there is no scope for flame wars, as long we give credit where it is due. Regards, Debarshi
