Mouse Configuration in Fedora Core4

Hi, FC4 installed finally but not without hiccups. I will not mention some weird things that I bumped into during installation. Now I'm stuck with a detected mouse, which is non-operational. I see a pointer at the center of the screen but it won't move from there. I used the keyboard during the entire installation process. This mouse was detected by some other distros of Linux earlier so the H/w is ok. I tried /usr/bin/mouseconfig - Shutting down console mouse services fails. next I get an error message stating Failed to set line discipline .. As always, Help me !!! Thanks, Gishu Pillai

printing problem

Hi all i have a laser printer that is connected to a windows machine. that machine is part of a particular domain. my machine which is running linux happens to be part of the same network ( not domain ) . i have account for access to the windows domain . the problem is that i m not being able to use that printer from my linux machine. does anyone have some idea, how to do it. regards devendra

Importing OE6 mails into Evolution

Hi all, In my quest to shift entirely to Linux, I am facing some problems in getting somethings done. For example, I still use my OE 6 under XP. I am still using it because I have 2 yrs old mails which I need to refer to quite often. I want to import the old mails from OE 6 into Evolution and it only allows OE 4 mails in mbx format to be imported. Can anyone help me in this regard. I need this last thing to be done. Apart from this everything else is looking positive and once I have the old mails under Evolution, it might be bye-bye to Windoze...completely. Thanks rc

Most mail clients allow importing a whole directory of individual mails into a mail folder - thunderbird does I think & I suppose evolution does as well. Hi, I'm back with some more A big thank you to Dinesh here. My wish to own an AMD machine has come true. (AMD Semp 2500+ with ASUS K8S-MX). Now 2 Linux distros have failed to install .. FC4 which came with this month's Chip DVD just keeps rebooting. I see the second line Reading initrd.... and kaboom Next it was Debian 3.1- Now here I get a weird error that failed to mount CDROM. I have used the same drive to install the same distro on another machine. It is booting from the CD but a modprobe command fails look like. In the end I was forced to put in Win2K and needless to say it installed fine (maybe I need more Linux installs under my belt) What's up with this ? Thanks, Gishu Pillai

[OT]A good Laptop

Hi all, I would like to go for a Laptop and my budget is not going to permit me to go in for Centrino based ones. It is around 35k. I think sometime back, the list was discussing about Acer Laptop model 3002. I would like to know about the performance of these. I have seen the Acer site and it says that the battery gives a backup time of around 1 hr. and that I think is too low. That apart, Last week when I was in Bangalore, I saw a few AMD 64 based Laptops of SAHARA being displayed. Is there anyone who is using any laptops from SAHARA. I wonder how much is the price and how is their after-sales service. Thanks rc

Hello All, I got myself an LG LSP350R (reliance) and tried to modprobe it using the 3 different commands but none of them seem to have a module suitable for the new lsp350r that uses a usb cable. The configure system in Mandrake 10.1 shows an LG usb modem but no modules installed. Anyone has successfully tried out this new phone using kppp? Just for the information of everyone, the cable available in the ...express shop did not work but a Cheetah brand cable costing only Rs. 300/- works fine. [OT] FirmWare update for DLink ADSL 502t

FWIW, V2 FW (20050530) is available for the DLink 502t modem/router used by MTNL TriBand ADSL service. http://www.dlink.co.in/dlink/drivers/support.asp# Click on "Firmware" and search for 502t in the list of products displayed and download the file. The file is in .rar format and you need MS Windows to apply the new firmware. The unpacked .exe is a Windows app that uploads the firmware embedded within it. As always, ensure the router and your PC are powered by a functional UPS - to avoid any problems in case of power loss. This version's web admin interacts well with Firefox unlike V1. It has VPN (and more ...) functionality although I have not checked them out yet. A Frenchman, and maps ... in the South Pacific Franck Martin [1] is a Frenchman based in the South Pacific. (You might have noticed his sense of humour on the trip to Angkor Wat.) As a Wikipedia contributor, he's described as someone "checking mainly the pages of the Pacific Islands and updating when neccessary. Promotion of wikipedia in Pacific Islands." But what's more interesting is his Tikimaps [2] work. http://www.iosn.net/events/fossap-2005/blog/franck Mapserver, says Franck, is a tool, for "bringing data to all stakeholders via Internet and Opensource Technology". It promises the tools for e-government, good governance, transparency, sustainable development, asset management, disaster management and security.... provided we have the political will for that. To see what's possible, visit some of these sites from the distant (from us!) South Pacific islands of Tonga [3], Fiji [4], Tuvalu [5], Kiribati [6]. Franck sees many advantages in using Free and Open Source software. These include sustainability, licenses (Internet licences are expensives), software support, no "black box" phenomenon (where we don't understand the technology we use). It also allows you to rely on standards and support many file formats (not vendor dependent). It is reliable. And secure too, provided the administrator cares for it. Hi, I need to display multiple command outputs on a single console, this is basically to display multiple outputs of commands like netstat, sar, vmstat on the same screen. dstat works but i need to script something to topas of AIX, it gives a screenful of output of various commands used for performance output.
