You just got yourself one helluva job there... I did the exact same thing.. I chose to keep my trusty old PII and bought a new heavy box with all the frills. Hey why throw a perfectly good thing + it was my first m/c :) I had Win98SE on the old box and XP on the new one. I also got the crossover cable and setup my Lan Cards now you are neck deep in ####. Both of them just didn't want to talk to each other. Cutting this story short, I ran the Home Network wizard over and over and over and finally one really bright day, I could see my XP Share in Win98. (Please remember this needs the Guest account to be activated on the XP box) Otherwise Win98 is shut out. Still XP can't see the 98 box... god knows why (XP I believe came out later than 98 or am I in a time warp ???) I haven't dared touch my current setup Then another really bright day, I got the bug of setting up Linux on the 98 box. I had the dream of surfing in Linux. I took out my RHL 8.0 Cds. To my great surprise I found RHL 8 won't install on XP after some desperate posts. On my 98 box, it just skimmed over in an hour. Now comes the sticky part, RHL 8.0 detects my modem but can't "activate" it. I haven't managed to get back to my adventure... Pull up your socks man .. it's a rocky road ahead. Do let me know if you manage to get it all up. I want to connect these two PC's My questions 1.Can I make this old PC a linux only box (dual/triple boot Linux only) and connect to my dual boot new PC. this means that my primary partition should be linux native. 2.If (1) is possible then how do I load linux in this PC which has no Cd rom/floppy drive. 3.Which distro will be suitable as a primary distro. Chirag : You could put an entry in rc.local (refer a script) to send a mail with all the logs /var/log/messages o/p of last o/p of history o/p of df -k For this u will need to configure sendmail as client on all servers..! This shd help u receive a mail every time reboots..! Also install tripwire to find any intrusions or changes in the files..! Harden ur servers before u put them in production..! u shd comment out ctrlaltdel in /etc/inittab it might be possible that somebody pressed Alt+Ctrl+Del on the console..! Availability of cheap linux CD's

Hi This is just to make a point that there are not enough people/organisations who distribute Linux Cd's or if there are any I dont know of them. Each time I wanted some Cd's I have struggled to find someone who can write them for me. Many a times I have found sites which advertise cheap linux Cd's but most are located outside Maharashtra none in mumbai or nearby. Can anyone help Require FC3,Slack10,Debian Sarge,K12ltsp. Mail Server Problem

Hi I replaced my crashed mail server(i.e sendmail on Redhat 9.0) machine (lets say machine A) with new machnine(say it machine B) and configured all mail accounts from scratch. Now machine B is working fine. After a month of time I fixed the hardware problem and also upgraded mail server of machine A and now I want to plug it again in my existing network and use it as the default mail server. Now I want to transfer all mail accounts and mails from B to A without discontinueing the mail service. What is the best way to do it? Regards, Bilal Ahmed Mazhar.

Hi, I have been searching on google groups so I am sorry if this is a stupid question. I am getting the following line in my log files. ------- 2004-12-11 19:01:57.728221500 delivery 335556: success: did_1+0+0/ ------- What does did_1+0+0 mean, I see this sometime, and other times I see did_1+1+0 or did_1+2+0.. etc.. Can any of the qmail gurus tell me what this means.. >From the net it said that "It's a count of the deliveries that qmail-local did. First one is the file deliveries, next is the forwards, and last is the program deliveries." Does file deliveries - mean just plain old text messages forward deliveries - means forwarded mail??? program deliveries - mean mail with attachments.. Regards, Keith

FC3 DVD copied to HDD-want to write CD's from it

Hi I am a linux user since 2001 and have tried some mini distributions and Slack since 7.1. Currently using Slack 9.1 I had been reading posts on linux forums and found that FC3 and Gentoo were getting more and more popular.Finally I was taken in by the posts about FC3 and decided to try it. I got the FC3 DVD from the linux4u mag. I do not have a DVD. So i found a person in my workplace who had a laptop with CD/DVD drive. I copied all the files in the FC3 DVD to my HDD. Now I want to burn CD's from these files copied to HD. In which order are the files to be burnt Or is there an alternate way. Also when I had tried FC2 test2 The installer had some info abt disk geometry has this been solved in FC3. What is the general opinion about FC3 Thanks and Regards Ninad

Query about logs

Dear All, I wanted to know if there is anyway I can check the reason for server reboot. We have this server which got rebooted under unusual circumstances. No one claims to have rebooted the system, in the boot.msg I see no errors (probably should have come if there was a hard reboot in form of fsck et al). Is there anyway I can crack this one? Are there any steps that I can take to ensure that next time atleast I can find the actual reason? Hi, I am looking for a out-house project for my Fourth Year in Computer Engineering from Ramrao Adik Institue of Technology, Nerul. My project topic priorities are - 1. OS security (not network security) 2. Embedded Systems 3. Device Driver Development (all the above topics based on the Linux Kernel) I found companies doing kernel work but most (rather all) are based in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Since i stay in Navi Mumbai and we get just 1 day in our 7th sem and 2 days in our 8th sem for the project, i would prefer a company in Mumbai. I couldnt find any "Yellow Pages" for Linux Kernel related companies in Mumbai. Could someone point me to companies doing this work. Also if anyone is engaged with such a company in Mumbai I would like to talk to him/her with regards to my project.
