Hi Guys I have to load linux for the first time on my PC and mine is AMD Athlon with FAT32 Win98 and Windows XP. I need suggestion for the product which will give 1-2-3 Click, Wow Linux Installed kind of features, as i don't want to take much risk while installing and I have lot of valuable files on my PC. Last time I had tried to installed Red Hat with help of my friend(network administrator) but their was some problem I could not recollect what was the problem. Is it that you should be of Expert Level to Install Linux by yourself I needed and cakewalk for installation for the any Linux vanilla product. need help on masqurading

Hi luggers I have a setup of 2 lan cards in my server,eth0 connected to my cable isp and eth1 connected to internel lan. eth0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX(public ip) eth1 10.100.100.1 (internel lan) now i have installed squid for sharing internet among computers on my lan,but some applications like kazaa do not work with squid.So i need to do nat so that i can share internet with out specifying any settings in internet explorer or any other application (squid proxy settings). I want to allow 10.100.100.15 to 10.100.100.20 ip's to access net through nat and others through squid.Can any body suggest me how to do that or if some body can send me a ready made sample config file for the above setup,it would be great help if i get the sample file. Hi, I had visited D. J. Sanghvi CoE some time ago to collect my leaving certificate. There some people in the Electronic dept informed that the HoD was interested in a 2-day workshop on GNU/Linux ... I had given them the LUG's email address, but seems there was no further action on that. I noticed at least one person - Charudatt Mulye - is a student in DJSCE. Can you contact Dr. Mrs. Warnekar and follow up on the plans for a workshop? I believe the college is setting up a lot of new labs and want to have a good setup that will be manageable by students themselves ... Sameer.

Apache server starting problem

I have installed apache server 2.0 installed on my machine. The problem is that it is not starting. when ever i try to start httpd with ./httpd start command it shows failed. then i tried using ./apachectl start it gives message that cant access httpd.pid file which is one of the directive in the httpd.conf. there is no such file available in location. then created a empty file at specified location and again done same procedure i got same result. then i deleted httpd.pid and done ./apachectl start it given no error. but again ./httpd start failed. hello luggers, this is regarding my previous mail in which i had sadly informed that we could not hold a workshop in Vivekanand engg. coll. for the PRAXIS festival. i had also said that we could instead have a workshop on behalf of IEEE. i talked to a person in IEEE vesit chapter today, and he said that there's a *bombay level* symposium coming up in probably 2nd week of april. we could have a gnu/Linux workshop during the sympo. he said that since the sympo is bombay level, there will be a very good response, and that the no. of people (both students and professionals) wil be large. we could have a stall for selling cds, etc. if we are willing to pay them some money. the exact amount will be decided by them if we are willing to pay them. -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! PCQuest Linux Version 8

Hi, I got the PCQuest Linux Version 8 distro last week and installed it on my PC. It is based on the RedHat 8, but with some modification which they feel is better for Indian Users. I was impressed with the way it installs and works. I think new users may find it very useful. For example, knowing that many users now use cable internet and that most of the cable operators use cyberoam software called 24onlineclient, they have provided the necessary software which can be used to connect to cable internet. Similarly, they have provided aMSN and Yahoo messanger. I found this very useful. They have also provided a software called MONO, which is supposed to be the GNU\Linux version of Microsoft's Dot Net Framework. The PCQuest magazine for this month gives detailed explaination for each of the things they have provided and how to get it running. And basically in not techie language. Basically, I got "out of the box" features. Only problem is that after every 12-15 minutes, I get logged out of my cable network and need to log in again. I hope to get my cable operator solve for me today. Regards Saswata

knoppix problem

my hdd has the foll config: partition type mount size comments hda1 vfat /mnt/win 3GB hda5 ext3 /boot 23MB hda6 ext3 /data 10GB hda7 swap 205MB hda8 ext3 / 2.5GB Red Hat Linux 7.3 hda9 ext3 / 3.33GB Knoppix i first installed knoppix in hda9 and then installed Rhl 7.3 in hda8. The Rhl installation did not detect knoppix and hence did not create an entry in grub. when i tried to mount hda9 as ext3 in /knoppix on hda8, while booting it said that the filesystem is not supported. but when i mount hda9 from root prompt in hda8 using "mount -t ext3 /dev/hda9 /knoppix", i can access all the directories present on hda9. i tried making the foll entry in /boot/grub/grub.conf title knoppix root(hda0,5) kernel /vmlinuz ro root=/dev/hda9 initrd /initrd.gz #here i've created "$ln -s /boot/initrd.gz initrd.gz" but, when i try to select the knoppix option at the grub login, it gives me "error 15: file not found" what is the problem? how do i solve it? hence, my immediate problem is to get a working entry in grub, so that i can use my knoppix installation. any help will be greatly apprediated -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! this is regarding the technical festival named "Praxis" to be held in Vivekanand engg. college on 16-17 march. in the last meet, i had said, that being a student of Vivekanand engg. coll. i will talk to the Praxis managing committee about holding a small workshop on Gnu/Linux and/or having a small stall where we could sell Gnu/Linux related cds like Knoppix, etc. i inform you all with great displeasure, that the festival is heavily scheduled with various events, and that we cannot be allowed to hold a workshop. but i also have a good news. in all probability, we might be allowed to hold a workshop on behalf of the IEEE VESIT chapter in the following week. we might also be allowed to have a stall to sell cds, etc. i will contact the necessary authorities, and let you all know about the workshop as soon as possible. i personally think that educating students about Gnu/Linux is important and the media shouldn't matter much. so we should all see this as a good opportunity -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Bitte lächeln! Hi Srinivas, With Php/Postgres/Apache what issues i see is the configuration directives that u have given while compiling php with postgres and apache, here are some configuration parameters you can see: Postgres Configuration Directives: pgsql.allow_persistent boolean Whether to allow persistent Postgres connections. pgsql.max_persistent integer The maximum number of persistent Postgres connections per process. pgsql.max_links integer The maximum number of Postgres connections per process, including persistent connections. So your php{3/4}.ini file should have these types of values assigned for these directives: [PostgresSQL] ; Allow or prevent persistent links. pgsql.allow_persistent = On ; Maximum number of persistent links. -1 means no limit. pgsql.max_persistent = -1 ; Maximum number of links (persistent+non persistent). -1 means no limit. pgsql.max_links = -1 If these values are fixed then you might get problems what you are talking about. These values can also be read from phpinfo() in a php script file, so u necessarily need not open this file. Login Problem Please help

Hello LUG, I am running RH7.1 on i686. The computer boots properly but when I type any user name the login interface seems to hang up and never asks for the password. When I telnet from another computer I see: Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf) Kernel 2.4.7.10 on an i686 and the login prompt never appears. pl help me out. kamal matta
