Hello Luggers, good-morning. Lemme take this oppurtunity to thank all of you'll for your sustained support which has helped us all through our travels across the length and breadth of this state. I would like to take this oppurtunity to personally thank all of you all who donated CD's which we sold at the the event. Believe me...after the knoppix demo and post the talk Students MOBBED Gurpreet who was selling the cd's. Our 20 Copies(Consisting of GnuwinII+Knopix+IndLinux = 2cds) were sold out in 10 minutes.....and students were clammering for more. We were amazed to see 2nd year Engineering students from Walchand Sangli....develop some real fundu 8085-8086 Simulators with an amazing GUI in Java and have been talking to them on Putting the same into the GPL domain..(Dinesh...pls push them and email calling them to discuss the same with the LUG). Learning our lessons we are looking at offering the same at Gnunify as a 2 cd kit and only charging for the cost of the 2 cd's which we will plough into the event again. On the whole many other Engineering/MCA colleges in the interriors of Maharashtra are opening up to FSF and OS and want such events organised at their campus too. We are looking to build this sustained movement all around Maharashta with the help of these charged Warriors at the local institutes. Looking forward to your unhindered support in the future too. Usually there is a heartbeat program which monitors the other node periodically and the failover happens when something abnormal happens (like say, the node not responding). Load balancing: You have too much computing to do and would like to share it between the nodes on your cluster. Example: A round-robin DNS server. Each times it receives a request, it gives the next IP in the machine pool so that the other machine handles the request. Lot of computing power by mixing many machines and using it for computing. Usually for resource intensive operations like those of computational fluid dyanmics, simulations etc. where you havin many parallel operations would benifit. PVM libraries etc. etc. are made use. One or more of these could be combined together in a cluster. It would've been good if you searched over the net for these defintions. They don't have much to do with Linux per-se, so technically speaking, these are way too OT here. A question on Beuwolf ... yes! a right topic for discussion on these lists. > softwares. Problem with g++

I have this peculiar problem with g++ under linux. This is a small piece of code that i wrote #include<iostream.h> main() { cout << "blahblah"; } When i try to compile it, i get the following warning In file included from /usr/include/c++/3.2/backward/iostream.h:31, from first.cpp:1: /usr/include/c++/3.2/backward/backward_warning.h:32:2: warning: #warning This file includes at least one deprecated or antiquated header. Please consider using one of the 32 headers found in section 17.4.1.2 of the C++ standard. Examples include substituting the <X> header for the <X.h> header for C++ includes, or <sstream> instead of the deprecated header <strstream.h>. To disable this warning use -Wno-deprecated. To get a warning free compile i commented out the line #include backward_warning from iostream.h When i try to run the executable the shell does a silent return, without printing the blahblah as it is supposed to. I redirected the output to a file, and it contained blahblah. I dont think the problem is with g++, but i cant exactly put my finger on it. Hi folks, Are there users of RH5.0 out there? I am asking this, as I have some systems running RH5.0 (2.0.36) since ages. Of course, I had upgraded sendmail,apache, PHP etc over these years on these boxes, and they are serving me well since their inception. IOW, *they do what they are supposed to do*, leaving nothing much to whine about. They mostly function as mailservers. I dont blame entirely the retro-ness(?) on my laziness, but mostly on the principle "Dont fix it if it is not broken." I saw nothing broke, also my requirement is being met by these machines. However, any new system I build goes with "somewhat decently" recent versions of Linux [ie, RH7.0 (2.2.16-22) or 7.2, even though RH 8.0 is the current cool and hype thing.] I would like to know how you ladies and gentlemen out here treat the versions (if you guys have any) that power my said horses. I suppose one prime plus point of Linux is that it likes older hardware as well. How do we treat the older kernels? Tear 'em down? Thanks for your time and patience in advance, Anu Mathew

Hi, Anyone tried proc filesystem? I tried working with the, procfs example in /usr/src/linux but it shows errors in procfs.h, I am not sure if the example is for the kernel 2.4. I googlized but found same example, is that program have to be modifed to run on kernel 2.4. ThankX in Adv JAI

FREEDUC CD : excellent content, but could not get mouse working

I have the freeduc 1.1 CD which is based on knoppix 3.1Beta created by www.ofset.org . I can boot from the CD. I can access programs with keyboard. However it does not enable my mouse. On the same computers, the knoppix CD works very fine. The collection of educational programs on freeduc CD is REALLY excellent. Can some crack the problem. Dr Siva at OIIT has run the same CD on hois laptop and desktop without any problems and has good opinion of it. If we can confidently run it on ususal machines ( mine are usual ones) , it will be 'killer' ( please suggest a better pro-peace word in these days of war mongering) application for free software. Posters of DOUBLE-A3 size are ready. 1000 of them. I had sent a list of colleges (as in Mumbai University website) where posters for lecture by Stallman are to be put up. I had requested to give me contact numbers for the colleges as I have them only for engg college from admission form. This is to follow up telephonically. This is a request to ensure that posters are put up. Please contact undersigned for reaching posters to you. I am going to appeal to VJTI students to reach them. If you know any student of VJTI who can reach you, s/he can get posters from my lab which is 1st floor, Mech engg deptt. Phone 24151791. PLEASE make sure that posters are put up by wednesday and if possible make a personal appeal from class to class to attend. Do mention availability of CD at concessional rate only for those who register at the lecture. Entry is free. Ask me for a softcopy of the poster on e-mail if you can print. Hi, I am working on RH8.0. I configured php and apache, but the post or get are not working. Any data sent by the form is not being received by the php page. But will VJTI allow sale on behalf of FSF / GLUG / ILUGBOM ? do we have the necessary permissions ? ---------- The current letter approved by Princpal which J.N.SHAH has sent to ilugbom(He said that it is not put in the ilug because of size) expilictly mention about sale by student association and the price at 25/ per cd. It should not be a problem for FSF/GLUG/ILUGBOM since there are non-profit organisations. [J.N.Shah may a get a formal approval;] As far as I know, there can be no profit based sale in the campus;even it is a small value. Finally, it is a question of approvals. geting error with horde webmail packag
