squidGuard fails to block sites

Dear Linuers, I am using Linux 7.1 Redhat Kernel 2.4.18-3 Squid 2.3.STABLE4 SquidGuard 1.2.0 Sleepycat Software berkley DB 3.2.9 ( January 24, 2001 ) Can anyone help me regarding squidguard. It used to work but it suddenly stoped working. Configuring Squid Proxy Server

Hello, My friends' college has provided them with internet access in their hostel rooms. The proxy server located in the college runs Red Hat 7.3 & Squid as the proxy server. Although it works fine, it has two very serious problems: 1. It doesn't allow browsing any site with an underscore (_) in the URL. 2. Although the download speed is blazingly fast (around 60 Kbps), the messenger programs like Yahoo! & MSN run EXTREMELY slow & GAIM doesn't run at all. I suspect there is some problem in configuring the protocols supported by Squid. What can be the underlying problem ? Their NetAdmin as usual is totally oblivious about the whole thing. hi In shell Script...how do i get a month which was 3 months earlier to the present month......i.e Now its Jan ...How do i get Jan minus 3 which shuld return me.......Oct..... It shuld b in format of Jan..Feb..only...as i need to search a file by that name and then delete it......File Format is...***Jan_01..., ***Feb_01 and so on...So on Jan1st i need to delete a file which has name ***Oct_01 and this shuld go on for rest of the yr... what is "consolehelper"

philip mentioned in a reply in the linuxers 769th vol that it is possible to have separate configuration files for wvdial. also that wvdial can run thru "consolehelper" so that it doesn't require root previledges. my doubts are 1. what is "consolehelper" 2. how can i use it to connect to the net w/o root previledges so that i can allow my younger brother to connect to the net w/o giving him the root passwd thanks 4 all the help

Hi, I have RedHat Linux 7.2 installed alongwith Windows 2000 on my Compaq Desktop. Every once in a while Linux freezes mysteriously and Win2K never does (to my embarrasment since I advocate Linux at my workplace). I checked the bootlogs etc for any error messages but got none. So looking for help. What info should I post that could help someone troubleshoot the problem? I suspect the NIC or the video card drivers. TIA, Siddhartha

Hathway cable modem - high download counts

Hi, I live in Hyderabad but Hathway cable modem is not yet very common here, hence I am shamelessly posting to a Mumbai list with my question! My apologies! I have had this service (Hathway cable modem metered service, 300 MB/month limit) for almost a month now, and I am about to give up on it because what their website shows as my "usage" is far higher than what my iptables firewall shows I have downloaded (sum of all IP traffic coming to my machine). My observations are that if I stay online (without actually surfing) for more than 2-3 hours, this difference is quite noticeable. "ifconfig eth0" (which shows IP *plus* non-IP traffic, as opposed to iptables' input chain, which shows only IP traffic) is closer to what they claim is my "usage", and using tcpdump I realise that the difference is the constant stream of ARP traffic (amounting to about 300-500 KB/hour!) More bizarre, if I stay online beyond midnight, the next day the usage is almost double of what you would expect even from the "extra" caused by ARP being counted, so I'm effectively getting hit twice when I do that! Some serious double-counting bug in their software :-) My question to the group: has anyone in Mumbai noticed this? People using Windows will have no way easy way of detecting this, which may explain Hathway's extremely polite but otherwise apathetic attutude to my concerns, so I have to ask Linux people this question... I'll bring Debian for my box in Mumbai. It's 3.0r0 from an HTTP mirror in Austria. Or do we already have that? problem with d-link external modem

Hello, i borrowed a d-link external modem from a friend of mine. i have rhl 7.3 fresh install on my sys. kudzu didn't detect it. i searched on google to find out that "/usr/sbin/kudzu -p" does detect it & it did. in fact it detected it & also my d-link sm56 internal modem, but i cudn't initialize it 2 work using kppp. kppp says "sorry, could not open modem" i cud initialize the modem (external) using wvdialconf. when i ran wvdial, it said that the modem was connected to the net, but all the internet apps (mozilla, kmail, lynx, yahoo msgr, etc) i tried said cud not locate host. what seems 2 b the problem? i tried searching 4 a driver so that i cud get it configured automatically 4 use thru kppp, but cudn't find 1. how do i configure using kppp? the output (only part pertaining to modems) of "/usr/sbin/kudzu -p" is pasted below: class: OTHER bus: SERIAL detached: 0 device: ttyS1 driver: ignore desc: "RSS|0240 56000bps External Fax Voice Modem" pnpmfr: RSS pnpmodel: 0240 pnpcompat: RSS0240 pnpdesc: 56000bps External Fax Voice Modem class: MODEM bus: PCI detached: 0 driver: unknown desc: "Analog Devices|SM56 PCI modem" vendorId: 11d4 deviceId: 1805 subVendorId: 11d4 subDeviceId: 1805 pciType: 1 it wud b very kind of u all to help me configure ne 1 of the modems mentioned above. -- Best regards, Pradnyesh mailto:pradnyesh@gmx.net
