Hi Trevor I have successfully installed oracle8i on Redhat linux 7.0 & we are usings same without any problem but i have not tried on Redhat linux 7.2. I am having documentation of 'how to install oracle 8i on linux' but i am having hardcopy of that if u want i can fax u that document. We are using oracle 8.0 on all version of Redhat linux with out any issue & it gives fantastic perfomance. Rgds girish hey luggers...... I am tryin my best to install Oracle8i (the beast....;) ) on RedHat 7.2 ....but all that happens when i run the install script (runinstall.sh)...it just give a message abt loading JRE.....cpu usage by JRE goes to 100% without any further process. I have heard abt successful RH7.2 installations with ORacle 8i. Cany some1 provide some pointers pliss...... Sometime ago Network Computing had a special Linux issue which featured this ORacle on Linux install....but i cant seem to find this online nywhere......on ny of www.nc-india.com sites. SuSE7.3 workz out of the box with ORacle. but i dont want to mess woth another bloatware package unless i am forced into it. damaged filesystem

There was a powercut when my linux box was on. As a result, my system is saying that the filesystem is damaged. Running the repair utility does not help. Any suggestions? debian updates

Hi all, For the past few days, I havn't managed to do an "apt-get update" on my system. apt simply reports that it failed to fetch the relevant files ... anybody else see the same thing? My /etc/apt/sources.list is in order ... havn't ever touched it since my first installation. The effective UID used will be that of the program used to execute the script (sh/bash/python/perl etc). SUID only works with binaries, i.e. stuff that is executed directly, not using an external interpreter.

partitioning

Hello folks, I (finally) acquired a 40Gb HDD. I have partitioned it as follows :- primary - 2Gb - fat32 - /dev/hda1 extended - rest logical - 1.3Gb - Linux /dev/hda5 - 4Gb - fat32 /dev/hda6 - 9Gb - fat32 /dev/hda7 - 9Gb - fat32 /dev/hda8 - rest - fat32 /dev/hda9 I my haste and excitement I did not create a swap partition for Linux. Can I *delete* (using linux fdisk) the /dev/hda5 partition and split it into 2 without harm to the rest of the partitions? I think we can do it as the linux fdisk allows a lot of control, but I would just like to be certain about side-effects. :D Or can I use a swap _file_ instead of a partition? Or is a partition recommended? I would have experimented, but I already lost a lot of data in my last HDD crash and now I do not have a backup HDD. thanks, quasi

Samba Login Script error.

Hi, I have configured Samba 2.2 on Redhat Linux 7.2, I am facing the problem from the client side, while running the login Script. It is showing the error, 'illegal operation' while opening the NWLSCON window in the Client side( running Windows 98 2nd edition). I try to restore this file in client machine, but still this is happening. And the funny thing is , this is happening only on the first time when the user is logging in. Is there any solution for this. pls help me. thanks, Rajesh Prakasan
