Alix - The original name for GNU kernel

Hi All, I came across this paragraph while reading about "The GNU Project". These words are written by "Richard M. Stallman" Alix The GNU kernel was not originally supposed to be called the HURD. Its original name was Alix--named after the woman who was my sweetheart at the time. She, a Unix system administrator, had pointed out how her name would fit a common naming pattern for Unix system versions; as a joke, she told her friends, "Someone should name a kernel after me." I said nothing, but decided to surprise her with a kernel named Alix. It did not stay that way. Michael Bushnell (now Thomas), the main developer of the kernel, preferred the name HURD, and redefined Alix to refer to a certain part of the kernel--the part that would trap system calls and handle them by sending messages to HURD servers. Ultimately, Alix and I broke up, and she changed her name; independently, the HURD design was changed so that the C library would send messages directly to servers, and this made the Alix component disappear from the design. But before these things happened, a friend of hers came across the name Alix in the HURD source code, and mentioned the name to her. So the name did its job. -- Pankaj Jangid NCST, India

This is pretty basic. But yeah... the moment you want to do something that's not "inside" tomcat, you'd want to use Native Methods. For this you will have to code on the platform on which you are coding. For example if your external program/method is on Linux, you'd use CPP or C on Linux; if its on Windows, something equivalent. Lets hope things are not much ambiguous now. The question I replied to before had me stumped with ambiguousness. The answer is wrong nevertheless. This one sets things right. Hints: 1) install tomcat on linux.(JRE required) 2) by default it listens to port 8080, if u disabled it then re-enable it. search for server.xml file, in tomcat directory. Amish. P.S. Apache(port 80) can also serv JSP pages through a module. You will have to modify httpd.conf for that. MALHAR PUJAR wrote: >using JWSDP. Where can I get SuSE 8.0 (that is the latest version I think). Some place near Powai would be really nice. We need to install SuSE on one of the Dept. servers, since Oracle is apparently supported only on SuSE! All, I have been getting this error on my RH7.1 server. mount clntudp_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to send "portmapper" service apparently seems to be working fine. But this error shows that it is NOT. Can anybody give me a clue asap? --
