Hi, I believe around 12 linuxers went to various colleges on August 25. Can someone please give us a small description of that day's events? I would like to know which colleges were visited, what was the student turnout, what topics were discussed etc. The site http://www.linux10.org/ was set up by some Linux enthusiasts in Silicon Valley as a way to co-ordinate the birthday celebrations there. There were links to news about birthday celebrations in other countries as well. I was a trifle disappointed to see India absent. Perhaps ILUG-BOM can submit it's account of activties as an Indian contribution? mailing for intra-office purpose

hi! to make better use of my free time in office, I want to start an internal mailing facility. All clients(about 100) will be using microsoft outlook.We already have a company mailing system in place, for within and outside india offices. my mailing server will be only for bombay office, so no outside access or mailing will happen. Dynamic signature

hi, i've seen in many linuxers' mails (specially PHILIP TELLIS) that the signature changes with every email. how do you manage to do that??? i use evolution & netscape 6.1 (yeah...both of them crash a lot :)) in which you have to specify which signature file to use. my first guess is that to write a small "c" program which will overwrite say, "signature.txt" every min. with the help of cron. this program will take input from a small database of signatures. any hints/ideas?. thanks you. -- Registered GNU/Linux User #188850

Hi All, Sorry for being OT. I recently saw some aggressive marketting of Powersurfer Broadband Internet connection in Kandivli (W). If anyone is using such connection from powersurfer, then plz let me know how are the services. Also plz let me know if it is possible to connect to the net on the Linux box also. Linux and Telex Support

Ok. I opened the telex machine and found the following details. 8088 pc chip 2 telex cards (for 2 lines) model No. 405-2 Chipset of the telex card AMD-8085A-2PC /P8085A 8135 EP. There are two 9pin cables connecting the telex cards to a DC/DC converter (what's that) There's a 360 KB floppy drive on the system with some system files. The floppy never used to work earlier, the drive cable was loose. The floppy contained some files command.com, autoexec.bat, start.com, duend.com (what's that). The machine does not need the floppy to boot. so the system's operating system must be on a boot rom. Noel. lost the root password

hi ! recently installed linux on my friend's comp. Now somehow he has forgotten the root password. Is it possible to recover the lost password? The password file is shadowed. xcdroast issue

Hello, I had a machine with one CD drive. Then I got a CDwriter on trial "Creative 4224". When I connected the CD drive, xcdroast would not work. It would give me message like "...........scsi emulation not turned on .....". Kernel compilation failed. So I loaded Linux on a spare partition and xcdroast could now see the CDWriter. I returned the CDwriter to my friend and then purchased Samsung 208 CDwriter. This CDwriter was sensed by the kernel directly. But xcdroast gave me the same message and the CDwriter was not seen on xcdroast. I could however see the CD's as /mnt/cdrom and /mnt/cdrom1 I then copied the useful files from the old partition and again loaded Linux. Now CDwriter is seen with one issue (cd reader is not seen inxcdroast but that is a seperate issue). Now, i believe that I have taken a longer route in installing the first CDwriter and then another longer route in getting the next cdwriter working. Can someone give a better way of tackling this issue of chang of cdwriters. Anand
