I need to connect to a Linux appliance hardware that has display on the serial port. kernel/Documentation/usb/usb-serial.txt lists some USB 2 Serial adapters. However, I am not sure how many of them are readily available @ Lam Rd. Please share the brand/model of USB to DB9 serial adapter that has worked out for you. TIA, -- Arun Khan

Need help with Virtualization

Hi, We have 3 Gateway servers -- CentOS 5.3 (non-graphical mode) + Dansguardian + Squid. Not much traffic or load. We have 3 ISP & 3 separate teams using 1 ISP each, hence we have setup 3 different servers. I was wondering it it is possible to use virtualization and consolidate all 3 servers on single server. Hello List, I am trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/karmic/release/ubuntu-9.10-alterna…) on IBM eServer System p5. I get a boot prompt where I enter "expert install video=ofonly" It loads kernel then ELF and then I get a b/w screen saying, done instantiating rtas at 0x07716000 .... done WARNING: maximum cups (1) exceeded: ignoring extras copying OF device tree... Building dt strings... Building dt structure.... Device tree strings 0x01e01000 -> 0x01d023b3 Device tree struct 0x01e03000 -> 0x01e12000 Calling quiesce.... returning from prom_init _ and then system freezes. Same is the case with Debian Testing What can be the solution for this problem? -- With Regards Abhishek Amberkar

I've had a model that worked at random intervals, then started working, then stopped working again and again. I've tried BAFO and one other one. I'd suggest making on using an FT232 IC instead, which works best, although the IC itself costs about Rs.450 There's also this vendor on ebay.uk who sells a cable that works on 5V, so you don't need to convert the logic levels, but I can't find a link to the product. I have installed ispconfig 3 on centos 64bit 5.4, with squirellmail as my webclient. It is not able to authenticate and login with user created using ispconfig web panel. Please help. This article of mine recently appeared in www.opensource.com Open Source: Modernizing India's education system Over the last few years, open source adoption has been growing within India's education system. Five years ago, the South Indian state of Kerala, pioneered open source in schools with its famous IT@Schools project, that now covers three million students from the 5th-10 standards, involves 200,000 teachers across 4071 schools. Since then, other Indian states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Assam, West Bengal and others have made open source a key part of their school education initiatives. Many schools in India do not have proper premises, blackboards or toilets. In these circumstances, equipping schools with computers seems like a challenge, despite the fact that the Indian Government has decided to spend 6 percent of GDP on education. Proprietary software vendors offer deep discounts for schools and spend close to $20 million on “Train-The-Trainer” programs that enable school teachers to impart computer education to their students. Despite these blandishments, many governments find proprietary software an expensive way of computerizing their schools. For example, a study by the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, found that the Kerala government's usage of OSS saved it Rs 49 crore ($10.2 million).
