Pine is not distributed by default with Debian distro because it doesnt come under the GPL but u can d/l it seperatly from their website. OT - stopping CD piracy

OT : VPNs across proxies

Hello, Can someone please explain the following? HOST1 belongs to NETWORK1. NETWORK1 has a proxy server and a firewall which connect it to the internet. HOST2 belongs to NETWORK2 and is a VPN server. Now, HOST1 acts as a VPN client, goes thru the proxy and the firewall and initiates a session with the VPN server. Thus depending on HOST2, certain services of NETWORK2 are now available to HOST1. Is the reverse true? ie can HOST2 access any of the services of NETWORK1, thru the connection established above? Thanks a lot. Swap full

what are the remedies available when your swap space is reported as being full? this hasnt happened to me, but i'm just curious to know... Incidentally, what is the origin of this rule that i keep hearing - swap space = 2 * RAM I've heard this kind of rule being recommended when you're running SAP, but for home systems??????? especially when most home PC's are touching 256/512MB..... regards, kishor

mkinitrd tarball

hey folks the 2.4.5 kernel CHANGES document recommends mkinitrd-2.5-1. Now, i got the source rpm, but my version of rpm cant handle the new rpms. I've searched high and low for a tarball, but to no avail. X crash in kernel 2.4.5

hello! I installed a minimal system on my disk, then i compiled the new 2.4.5 kernel, booted into it - and then installed X. after configuration, i'm unable to start it. The same XF86Config file works fine if i boot into 2.2.14 kernel.I'm attaching the .X.err file for info. regards, kishor

Why do we hate Windows?

I have seen many Linux users (Linux users in general and not just linuxers) referring to Windows or it's apps in rather demeaning way e.g. window$,win....,M$ Win.., windoze, etc. Why are we so intolerant ? I mean we have been using this OS since it's arrival .Most of us (I am not sure but I guess) have dual boot system . I am not professing the use of Windows but I think it is imperative for us to understand that Windows is here to stay ,at least in the desktop environment . Also I think Windows is affordable for most users ( OEM stuff ) .So I think the argument that Windows costs a fortune is not true. In Linux too we have commercial distributions ( Suse,Corel, Red Hat Deluxe Workstation,etc..) whose costs are comparable to that of Windows 95 or 98 . So the question is why do we hate Windows so much ? Hi, Someone on the list had a problem with javac. I remember a similar problem when using Sun's JDK for linux with Redhat Linux 7.0 beta version. I needed to install a few patches because the glibc was broken (??) Anyway just my 2p. Regards Shahed.

Irrespective of the service provider, they should give the connection(with or without the cable modem) either onto ethernet card or onto serial port. I connect onto the ethernet card.
