I've got news that Internet access via cable modem is arriving in my locality. I am wondering whether there's support for it on GNU/Linux. Are there drivers available for the hardware (what kind of hardware?). Should I pray for its quick arrival? :) I remember there was a related discussion on the list sometime back. New Kernel

Hi I just compiled a new kernel from the 2.4.0 sources. During the configuration I configured the OSS sound modules to be selected and integrated the driver for my sound card cs4232 (Crystal) into the kernel *not as a loadable module*. The new kernel boots fine, but sound still doesnt play. What am i doing wrong ? Please help Thanx in advance. Paresh C

problem loggin in

sendmail problems

I am trying to setup sendmail on my PC. Now whenever I try mailing ilug I get following error : ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- linuxers(a)mm.ilug-bom.org.in (reason: 553 5.1.8 <nikhil(a)joshi.home>... Domain of sender address nikhil(a)joshi.home does not exist) Why sendmail is giving my address as nikhil(a)joshi.home to ilug? (my login name is nikhil and my hostname is joshi.home) My real email address is nikhiljoshy(a)yahoo.com I have used option MASQUERADE_AS('yahoo.com') in the file /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and re-generated /etc/sendmail.cf I made /etc/userdb.db file using the file /etc/userdb having following contents: nikhil:mailname nikhiljoshy(a)yahoo.com nikhiljoshy:maildrop nikhil Please help me. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? connection from BSNL

Listen to this cyberage stuff: I applied to BSNL a few days back as for VSNL I have to do 95 code now which becomes very costly. Previously I had 172222 connectivity at local charges. Now BSNL application has been sent almost 3 weeks back and when i called them today someone blamed the privatization process. "Private ho gaya to gadbad ho gaya. Govt. rehta tha to jaldi milta tha" Anyway which server are they setting up. Hopefully a Linux based server. Anand

How to rename multiple files in a directory? Suppose I have 20 .txt files in a directory.Now I want to rename these files to .doc I tried mv *.txt *.doc but I got message that while moving multiple files last argument must be a directory. problem with java

i have REDHAT 7.1 and jdk1.3 the jdk is in the /usr/java directory.initially i was not able to compile my java programs using jdk1.3 but i was able to compile with kaffe's javac.then i modfied the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variabe to point to the lib.jvm.so file in the jre directory.after settinfg the CLASSPATH variable to the present working directory i was able to compile my java program .after this when i try to run the .class file with java .class filename (without ofcourse the .class extension ) nothing happens the shell hangs cause idont get the commandprompt again.initially i thought it was because of the size of the java program cause i was porting a fairly lage application.but then i tried a simple program and it dint work either. any help,or links will be appreciated. ____________________________________________________ http://www.monsterindia.com - The Best Jobs. lilo screen notcoming

Hi luggers. I am re installing RH 6.2,during installation, after the Disk Druid Partition Screen , LILO configuration , with default OS selection , MBR or not , etc should come. That screen dosent come , instead it straight goes to the time setting/followed by formatting/installing packages. I am using a 32 Mb boot, 128 mb swap,(both linux native) , 1302 mb / (winfat32), in disk druid. and if LILo screen dosent come , how do i make sure the LILO gets installed to help me at boot time.
