Hi I recently moved to suse from redhat. However i could not get my sound card working (it worked with redhat). The sound card is a *crystal cs4232* ISA card. I tried to use the kernel driver by editing the /etc/modules.conf but in vain. Also can anyone please help me in configuring my internal modem Motorola SM56. Please provide detailed steps to get these both working. Thank you in advance. Paresh C.

Permanent Setting of DMA

I edited rc.local and DMA is now turned off everytime I load linux I would like to know if there is some file in which hdparm settings are stored so that DMA is turned off *permanently* In the boot process I still get the hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC } errors. Is there some way that I can disable echoing of these errors? (It kinda gives me an uneasy feeling ;-) Just for curiosity: When I checked out /var/log/demsg I found out this line hda: 8452080 sectors (4327 MB) w/256KiB Cache, CHS=526/255/63, UDMA(33) Also the BIOS gives the following info about my HDD: Pri Master : 6.01 ST34311A Ultra DMA Mode-2 , S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK It means that my HDD supports UDMA , then why I have to disable it to keep things normal? Does disabling it have effect on the performance?

I have been using Linux since RHL 5.2 and haven't faced any major problems since then. However with PCQ Linux 7.1 , which was distributed by PCQuest in it's July 2001 issue,I am facing severe problems as described below. I have Cyrix MII 300 Processor,64 MB SDRam,700 MB Hard Disk Space reserved for Linux,Yamaha Sound Card,Sis 6215c PCI graphic adapter (No prob with this thing though) Now whenever I start playing mp3 using either mpg123 in character mode or XMMS in GNOME and work on something else like just managing files or editing a text file ,etc.. the LINUX simply hangs! Even if I press <alt><F2> for another terminal nothing happens. Also while multitasking the quality of sound is pathetic. I reinstalled RHL 6.2 and I did not find any of the problems.Linux is as stable as it is known for. I tried not to do *any* other jobs while playing mp3 and still 7.1 hangs ! Please help me as I am very frustrated by this as I love mp3's as much as I love Linux. P.S. mount: incorrect major/minor version

Anyone remember this (or similar) error we were getting a while back? I don't think we found a solution, did we? Well, Nikhil Jagtiani recently fonud out that the major/minor numbers to which the error message refers are kernel version numbers, not device node numbers! Turning DMA off permanently

hey buddy, You can get the drivers for your Motorola SM56 "softmodem" at http://e-www.motorola.com/products/softmodem/support/software.html#linux You will have to have a 2.4.x kernel for this to work. If you are using RH 7.1 Linux then you could probably find the driver rpms at ftp.redhat.com or try out http://rpmfind.net/ Hope this helps! Fart

Can't Upgrade rpms

Hi guys, I was trying to install modutils-2.4.6-2 and got the rpm <=3 error and therefore tried to upgrade my rpm to rpm-3.0.6.6x it gives me the following error bzip2 >= 0.9.0c-2 is needed by rpm-3.0.6.6x libbz2.so.0 is needed by rpm-3.0.6.6x where do i get these ? Word Boundaries in Bash

How do I change the definition of a word boundary in Bash? When I type "ping www.yahoo.com[C-w]", I am left with "ping ". I would like it if I were left with "ping www.yahoo." on pressing C-w. Is there a definition (maybe in the form of a regexp) somewhere in a config file that I can change? Or is there a way to create your own shortcut commands in Bash? I know I can do that in Vim. Not sure about Bash. No mention in the Bash manual. :-/ Manish

I dont have much idea but I will try to tell you what I know. In server.xml use PoolTcpConnector as connector and specify max_threads, max_spare_threads, min_spare_threads paramters.
