So ask yourself why you are not allowed to do this?
BTW, if you try to break company policy, you are likely to get
terminated from your job. If I was your admin, I would be taking up
this matter with senior management and taking steps to get you fired.
If you cannot work wthout YM or other facilities, take the matter up with management and get the policy changed.

No, you do not have that choice. That is asked by squid, which will force authentication.

Hi Guys!
Thanks for your help, all of you. I got around the problem. It
turned out to be a trivial solution. I forgot to set the firewall
setting. I set that to allow telnet and bingo! Any idea how do I allow
root access via telnet?
I am very much a newbie in Linux, so please forgive my trivial
questions. :)
Thanks and regards,
Shailesh.

check /etc/hosts.allow
and
/etc/hosts.deny
allow those hosts whom you want to allow telnet access in hosts.allow rest
you can deny

Hi All,
Is it possible to mount FTP Accessible File system? Any utilities
available to do that?
I have difficulty in installing RPMs over FTP... I have RH6.2 and want to
install some RPMs from RedHat FTP server, but it fails even if i give
complete FTP URL with path to required RPM.
TIA

you cannot ping to any outside address ? connect to any website?
can you ping other machines in your network.
You should set up your client to point to port 8080 of your gateway.

uh huh. From what you say, i think the server has disabled you from getting
any outside access. check your gateway settings if they are proper.

Hi guys,
recently in my company the sys admin has setup a squid proxy which is now
restricting me to access yahoo messnger & other services like ftp, telnet etc.
it is only allowing http on 8080.
before my network didnt have a proxy & all requests were going to the router so
i could directly ping or telnet any server as if i was directly connected to
the net.
but now as i am behind a proxy i cannot use any service like telnet or ftp ..
& if i telnet to my local proxy & verify my login it logs me in but as no shell
is provided i get disconnected .. basically all this is done so that we dont
waste the bandwidth or misuse it... huh ..
now what i want to do is i want to run yahoo messenger/icq, telnet, ftp .. i
have used Kiwibox for chat but i want to connect through my usual yahoo
messger/icq ..so how do i go about it ...?
my office proxy is --> Squid/2.3.STABLE4 ..
I am also unable to check my other POP3's except my official one ..
so is there any way .. i could some how tweak or do something to enjoy these
services .. ;-)
Thanx in advance
cheers~
