Hello, We have a opening for an "Embedded Linux Systems Engineer" that will involve developing GUI applications in C/C++ on an embedded linux distribution (like DSL) that runs on a handheld device with touch panel / RF modem etc. As its our first step into the embedded linux world we're looking for someone who 'really knows his stuff well' and hopefully has some experience in a similar sort of project. We are going to be doing a number of interesting & very challenging projects and expanding the team, and therefore this presents an excellent growth opportunity. This ambiguity around moderation was cleared an hour ago by devdas on irc. I would also like to tip my hat to the people who worked on the installation guide[1] and its translations into 16 languages. They did a fantastic job. The comprehensive nature of that 141-page guide is invaluable to anyone who has to perform a complex and/or uncommon task (such as using TFTP to boot a computer over a network from another machine). The trouble with comprehensiveness is that it frightens a new user who is simply trying to set up a home desktop. For them, Debian's official installation guide is not a good introduction to Debian and it is completely at odds with the spirit of projects like Robert Millan's Goodbye-Microsoft.com[2], where the goal is to provide the simplest possible transition from MS Windows to Debian GNU/Linux. For people who are new to GNU/Linux and are simply trying to install Debian on a home desktop, I wrote an "Illustrated Guide to Installing Debian GNU/Linux."[3] The guide is 10 pages long and is filled with screenshots (to make the user feel comfortable). To add a touch of comprehensiveness, I also included 12 pages of appendices to help them select partition sizes, introduce them to package management, etc. When I wrote the guide, I had the users of Goodbye-Microsoft.com in mind, so I submitted it to Robert Millan, who asked me to send it to you. I never intended to create an official Debian document, but -- if you think that it is of good quality -- I would be happy to help you turn it into one ("source code"[4] and all 73 screenshots[5]). Let me know what you think of the documents and please let me know what I can do to help make Debian more friendly to new users. Agreed, obvious spammers should be banned (not moderated). Newbies doing things because they dont know the rules should be politely corrected by peer pressure. Apart from that, nothing constructive will be achieved by moderation which is an archaic concept from the dark ages and more suited to places like china where the whole country is under moderation. Also moderation is not good for the moderator. When an admin starts moderating people, however nice a guy he is, he starts to get a little power mad. I was once kicked from a channel by a guy who did it just to show me that he had been granted ops on the channel! If you moderate non-newbies, they will most probably leave the list and never rejoin. And the community will be the loser. In this case, the discussion is highly relevant as it gives a clear pointer as to why so few women appear on community mailing lists. This is a problem that worries a lot of us. I personally was horrified at the sexist way a woman respected in the community was addressed as 'my dear'. And am appreciative of the fact that she is holding her own. Please do not bring up things like 'moderation' and threats to ban people who are non-spammers. Rely on peer pressure. That is the way a community grows. Check the mailing lists around the country - the more heavily moderated a list is, the faster it dies down. For the past few years both Chennai and Mumbai lists have been very free with the admins keeping a very low profile. DWG Viewer in Linux?

Hello, A client of mine only needs to read DWG files and print them. Currently he uses the free DWG viewer from Autodesk in doze. I want to migrate him to Linux. On the net there are hardly any proper viewers that I could find. There is an lx-viewer but it uses openDWG libraries that are available only to members of the openDGW group companies.
