Hi! Have a look at page 2 of today's ( Sun Oct 13) Mumbai Newsline (supplement of The Indian Express ) Following is the comment at the end of the paragraph : S Ganesan and his email account : He wants to thank whoever invented email, but doesn't know if it should be Sabeer Bhatia or Microsoft I am confused. I mean Microsoft didnt invent email right? It was right frm the age old days of Internet I guess ... Also Sabeer Bhatia invented Hotmail ( I still dunno why it was earth - shattering . Can ny1 enlighten on this pls ?) So who invented email ? -- Nikhil Joshi

I was finding the history of a few technologies as a part of my mba studies. Heres some insight for email: "The first email message was sent in late 1971 by a computer engineer named Ray Tomilson. While the exact message is not known, it is believed to be something like "QWERTYIOP". Ray Tomilson is also the person who picked up the "@" as the locator symbol in the email address. [OT] vsnl & virus scan

First of all I have no idea if VSNL does what 'Saswata Banerjee & Associates' pointed out in his last email to this list. But I think its not legal to do that(even if email has virus). Because I think email should not be scanned(even if by a 'DUMB' program) without permission of sender or receiver. As most of emails do not have virus and may be official emails and it would be considered as intrusion to someones privacy. Would like others opinion. Thanks. Amish. Blocking spam is a completely different thing. You identify complete emails received from a dubious sources and block them. When you alter private emails you are breaching privacy. I dont think there is a "law" to prevent it, but it is /not/ the "Right Thing(tm)" to do IMHO. quasi

[OT] Help Solicited : Linux installation on server.

There is a small office in Bombay, using Linux on their server. However, due to a disk crash, they need to start afresh & need the services of a person adept at Linux installation / configuration on a server. Their requirements are somewhat like this: Apache, PHP, MySQL, DNS, sendmail, POP... I believe the office will remunerate for the services rendered. cgi + apache configuration issues

I'm trying to configure my apache server to handle cgi scripts. eSakal font

Hi all, I am trying to install sakal fonts on redhat linux 7.2. This is what i did. 1. Copy the fonts to directory. /usr/share/fonts/Truetype 2. created fonts.scale file 3. I added the above directory to fontpath using chkfontpath 4. restarted xfs, xfstt 5. But I am not able to view the fonts in konqueror. Btw, I can see the font installed using gfontsel. Please help.
