editing the startup files

Hi, I have RH 7.1. Before the logon screen appears, and after INIT starts, a number of programs are automatically started . Which file should i edit so as to prevent some of these programs from starting and also to add some other program? (Something like autoexec.bat in windoze 9x.) X not working

Hello, I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop 1405-S151 which has a CyberAlladin-T graphics accelerator card with 16 MB of VRAM.I am using PCQ Linux 7.1 which is based on RHL 7.1 However X does not seem to start up. I searched the net for the solution but was not successful. there is one site which mentioned that there is a driver which works with XFree86 4.0.2. How do I find out which version of X is running on my machine. Unmounting /

Hi! ok this is bit stupid but still.. how do I unmount / i've observed that during shutdown / is unmounted ==> I shud also be able to unmount / but when i give: #umount / it gives umount: /: device is busy for obvious reasons. so how does the shutdown manage to umount the / Thx -- Nikhil

Hi to all, First of all I AM sorry for not to reply you within 3-4 days & also the way of question that I was discussing. Well I am not miss any DNS name I want to connect two commuters. One is configured as domain controller with windows 2000 Active directory with domain name "milkyway.net" { hay there is no space or wrong my server works very well ;-) } with IP add 198.165.10.2 same DNS address "milkyway.net" and second is with mandrake 8.1. Tell me how I will connect two PCs Tell with the simple language with proper instructions with striate method OR Tell me how I will configure Linux as a samba server with peer-to peer model in the simple sets of instructions. I want to thanks satya, Phillip and others but name was DNS name or FPQN is not my problem My problem is that I don't know how to configure this two machines properly. How to's and books are on this topic are too bulky to use. just tell me method as practically you have do it. You are diverted the subject that I am talking forgot about DNS configurations . tell me SAMBA configurations. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------
