Downloading Knoppix in Sify Broadband

Hello Friends, I just wanted to share wat im doing right now...May sound crazy..But experts here may give me some advice tats why im writing this... I started downloading knoppix on sunday morning(08:08:05) with my sify broadband connection...But till afternoon i could download only 12% of the total download using the Firfox browsers inbuilt download manager after which i had a power shut down :( So i had to restart the download from 0% again in the evening,Some one in one of the yahoo chat rooms suggested me to use "FlashGet" to download knoppix,So till yesterday nite i was able to download 15% of it...Again today morning i started it,Its still downloading :D Whn i just look back,I feel wat im doing is quite funny or indeterminable...I didnt know any other way to get it,Im put up in chennai...I don't have any friends having knoppix CD in here....Im still continuing this thing here.... Kindly tell me any other alternatives....Coz the only way i felt like getting is this one.. :( Thanks a lot for patiently reading.... Regds, Gokul

Hello folks, As mentioned in the subject, I have Gentoo Linux 2005.0 running KDE 3.4.2. I happen to have a Nokia 3650 phone. For a long time, I've wanted to be able to transfer images, videos etc from the phone to my Linux box and vice-versa via Bluetooth. I tried to get this setup working a few days ago and found success. Forward DNS request to ISP

Hello, I have setup a Linux proxy on FC2 with wvdial for internet connection over modem. I have about 5 differenet ISP dialup accounts & depending on connectivity, I keep juggling between the ISPs. The problem is, whenever I swicth the ISP, I have to change the DSN IPs on the desktop too. If I put my Proxy Server's IP address as the DNS on the desktop, then I will not have to keep changing the DNS values on the desktop. Is there any simple way to forward DNS queries (recd from the desktops) to the ISP's DNS Server (allotted dynamically for every connection)? Alternately is it not possible for server (i guess squid) to do all the resolving business and let the desktop live in peace.... Advice / suggestions / pointers are welcome. Vai

Windows cellphone

I am the owner of an IQ 200phone. I was gifted this abomination. It has windows ce. The processor is omap 510 a TI variant of ARM with dsp for cellphones. It is a nightmare to use. I suppose that is the windows standard. The hardware is good and would be put to good use if only i could load linux. I am ofcourse planning to do so but wanted to know if anyone on the list has this gizmo, so that i can get it working if things go wrong. rgds jtd

Hello All, In the concrete jungles that we live in, the amount of natural daylight that is available to every room in our buildings is negligible. This results in full usage of electric lighting even during the daytime. Due to this, our electricity bills shoot up and the commercial establishments pay the maximum price for this. We all know that optic fibres can transport light over long distances and are flexible enough. A single optic fibre is too thin to transport a huge amount of light but suppose a whole bunch of optic fibres were used to form a... say one inch (or more) thick cable, then would it be possible to transport a high intensity of light through this cable? This needs to be experimented. If successful, then we can have a thick cable that runs from the terrace of the building to the room where the lighting is needed. The bright sunlight can be focused on the cable using parabolic reflectors or optical lenses. A transparent heat shield can be placed just before the cable starts, to absorb excess heat. At the receiving end, a special spherical glass unit with multiple miniature prisms can be used to evenly disperse the light like a bulb. For every 'bulb' there will be one cable. The cable will be flexible enough to be routed in a neat way. If this system works for even 50% to 60% of total office lighting, then this will mean a huge saving on electricity bills for commercial establishments as well as residences and will be a clean, maintainence-free source of day-light energy. What ports need to be masqueraded for VPN connections?

Hi We have a LAN with windows workstations connecting to the internet using a Linux router. Because of the viruses penetrating through internet explorer we've disabled Masquerading/NAT of the entire network and installed a proxy which does content filtering and virus scanning. However, a few windows workstations connect to a VPN. Does anyone know what ports need to be masqueraded for VPN connections? Thanks Regards Rishi

[OT] Com Port Issue

Hello All, I am having a dispute with my mobo repairer. I gave him a board that had serial mouse problems. He is supposed to have exchanged it with a working one as the one I gave him had a defective com port that could not be repaired. I did not mark my board so I cannot verify if an actual exchange has taken place. The 'replaced' system worked for 4 days at the client's place and the com port got knocked out again. Cyberoam trouble...

Hi guys, My ISP, 7star, uses cyberoam client to authenticate its users. I was happily using linc-daemon to authenticate to my ISP's server. As fate would have it he upgraded it. Now it uses Cyberoam version 6.5.0.5. linc-daemon is unable to login :(. It does say "login sucessfull" but I am unable to connect to any websites. The same configuration was working fine before he upgraded. He wasn't very co-operative the last time I had enquired about getting his connection working on Linux. Plus he has this weird idea that Linux is a "hacker" (or cracker) OS. I am 100% sure that the configuration is correct. Nevertheless I tried I tried the client which is distributed by cyberoam. It doesn't work either. It says "You have successfully logged into xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" yet I can't connect to websites. It just get stuck after name resolution. As I said earlier I am 100% sure that there is no configuration problem. It is definitely due to some misconfiguration on the ISP's side or the protocol isn't supported by linc-daemon. Any help, suggestions are HIGHLY appreciated. I can't live without internet on Linux :( Regards Dinesh Joshi P.S.: Apologies if the formatting isn't ok on the email. But how will the desktops get this entry. I have the problem on the desktop side.... I am sure of one thing, the DNS Server IP on the desktop has to be the one of my Proxy Server. So the next question is, which / how to run a small DNS server / DNS proxy Server, which will fwd all DNS request recd from desktops to the ISP's DNS server, and feed the reply back to the desktops.... Dual Head not working..

Hello everyone, I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 with 1 gig ram, and nvdia graphics card(details in the end). I am trying to configure a dual head single graphics card. The other monitor is a dell 1024x768 lcd display. The problem I am facing is that when i click on configure display and try to configure a dual head, the ok button does not respond. And, finally i need to click on cancel.. Any help will be appreciated. cant get the via-itx for the embedded mp3 player

Morning Fellas, With inputs from the gurus on this ml and from Sherlock, i have decided to make use of the Via-ITX board for the MP3 player on which i will connect a 64MB IDE Flash for the Shrinked Operating System and an LCD Display along with a Remote via the serial/Paralell connectors. Have tried some contacts on lamington for the via-itx boards but can't get anywhere. Any links/nos/email addresses of pple who retail the via-itx eden/c3 boards?. Please do pass them on if possible along with contacts for the LCD Display and the Remote Controls too is possible. Is there a site from where these can be ordered?. Dear Luggers, After successful installation of PCQuest Linux7.1 only CLI mode is available no GUI. Is there some Video Config settings I have to check/make ? Problem : GUI does not appear only CLI .
