Hi We have a redhat 9 linux file server in our office. We would like to have a realtime virus scanner running on it so that proliferating viruses can be detected as soon as possible. I think Samba is what you would use for this. Can it be done via a mount command ? Pls enlighten me someone. If it's on the same machine, of course a simple fstab entry would work. /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows msdos But then he mentions the word 'shared' Gishu

Hi guys, I want to buy this config: 1. AMD Sempron 2200+ Box Packed (Revision A, B??) 2. Gigabyte GA-7VM400AM or 2. ASUS A7V400-MX SE or 2. ASUS A7S8X-MX or 2. MSI K7N2GM2-LSR or 2. MSI KM4M-V 3. 256MB DDR333 (PC2700) Kingston? Corsair? Hynix? Samsung? Hyundai? I expect this rig to cost about Rs.6000-6500/- I want you guys to tell me which shops in Mumbai will give me the best price and best guarantee of quality. Names, Phone nos, Address would be great. My vendor is currently out of town and I need this rig in about 2 weeks time. I already have a P3 case (ATX) and I guess some of these motherboards are uATX (micro ATX, baby ATX or whatever). Kmail won't fetch my email...

Hi Guys, I got fed up of hotmail and its non-threaded interface. So I created a new gmail account just for using this mailing list :P. Anyway, I enabled pop3 @ gmail and everything seems to be working fine. But there is a problem. I sent myself an email just to test whether kmail is working alright. The email was sent fine and it has landed up in my inbox. But when I asked kmail to fetch my emails, it says no new mail. I logged into the web interface of gmail and sure enough the email was there. Why wont kmail fetch that email? Any ideas? Also, is my email looking ok? I am wrapping the lines at 78. Should I change it? BTW I am using FC2 with kmail 1.6.2 -- Dinesh A. Joshi

I am hypothesising: The UIDL of the message to yourself, sent by KMail to your GMail mbox, matches the UIDLs in KMail db and therefore does not download it. As a test case, use fetchmail to poll your GMail inbox and see if your message is pulled. I feel that apart from the name and the venue, there's nothing Bangalore specific about this event - all are welcome and there's no discrimination. Hi All, Please help me regarding the following scenario I have two domains : 1)DomainA 2) DomainB 1)If user from DomainA wants to send a mail to DomainB , How will send mail Fetch the Info from DNS for name resolution 2)When a mail is sent from Server to Client's Inbox , Will be there a copy of mail as long as mail is not reached to inbox of client, so that in case if doesnt reach it mailbox of client We can retrive the mail back in case if its UDP transfer What should be the DNS entry in both domain in this scenario Hoping for reply regards Amit

Hi I have been using linux since 2000. Earlier it was only Slackware but now I am quadruple booting my machine with Win XP(my brother uses this) FC3(primary distro-full install) Debian 3.1(25/4/05 build-base install will add packages as and when needed) Slackware 10.1(without KDE or Gnome but with XFCE and fluxbox but usage will be more of CLI The basic purpose of doing this was to get a taste of 3 major distributions. Everything is running fine but now what Also I want to learn programming and basic userlevel CLI tasks even maybe text editing in vi/vimor emacs. I dont know from where to start. May be a book on programming etc.I want to use linux installed on my Pc for some learning purpose. Earlier when I was new to Linux setting it up and using Linux for playing music/video/surfing were only the primary tasks I did. Any suggestions Thanks and Regards Ninad

hi there issues with communcation softwares

Hi everybody. I have a small issue with communication softwares. i was using procomm and pcplus under DOS to check the signals of the devices connected to my serial port. now in linux i use minicom but i dont find that effective. So can anyone let me know if they have used any softwares for communication with serial ports. i mean softwares like hyperterminal in windows. If yes please let me know. Windows won't forget samba password.

How can I cause Windows XP to forget the samba passwd? If I login to samba as foo and then after some time I want to re-login as bar, XP doesn't ask for the passwd. It just logs me in as foo. How can I sort of "logout" of samba? Restarting smb doesn't help. disconnections of users in samba

Icons freeze when online, detailed output.

Hi folks, ASCI (Agile Software Community of India) is organizing a conference on Agile methodologies in Mumabi. The details of the conference can be found at ASCI's website http://202.53.78.202/agile2005/agilemumbai/index.htm. I understand that this is a methodology conference and not a technology conference. But I think it would be helpful to the Linux hackers for the following reasons: 1. Agile and Open Source share the same philosophy 2. Techniques like short releases, code ownership, collaboration across team, developers writing unit tests, etc are quite similar to what happens in the Open Source world. 3. There are few other techniques like continuous integration, automation, pair programming, etc that could be very useful in the Open Source context. ASCI was started back at the beginning of this year to promote Agile methodologies in India. Since then we have organized two conferences, in Bangalore and in Goa. Mumbai is the third conference and the next one is planned to be held in Pune next month. We are seeking support from all Agile (and non-Agile) enthusiasts in making this conference a success.
