But the philosophy of runnig two kernels , on their own, is the philosophy of RTLinux a RTOS. Its quite simple really : A RT Kernel (the microkernel) runs, the vanilla Linux kernel as an idle process. Thus, only non-rt tasks are marked as "pending" and whenever there are no rt tasks running, Linux is woken up and it can perform the "pending" tasks. hi friends, i am trying a dual boot between redhat 9 and windows 98. i have a 80 gb harddrive. i partioned 40 gb of it and have left the balance un partioned. i installed windows which has 2 drives c and d. now when i was installing Redhat 9 the automatic partioning did not work. So i did disk duid but it only worked for making 2 partions only. so i made swap and / partion. please tell me why i could not make more 2 partions, /home and /boot. did i miss out on anything. please incase u have tryed this out please help me out. thanks a lot. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Hi all Well abt the Swap space I have a system with 512 RAM so does that mean that I need around a GB of swap space???? Well swap space is used to swap out the processes when there is less memory available so If u have enough memory there is no need of a swap space at all. I tested this out with many processes running and found that the swap space utilization was 0 and only my memory was being utilized. So its "recommended" for better performance to have a swap space of twice the amount of RAM iff u have less RAM(< 256 RAM and u r using X and all the heavy stuff). Although u can allocate a swap space of the same amt of RAM or less. In case while using the system u find that the system is running low on memory then u can create a swap file and use it temorarily as the swap space..NO NEED TO CREATE A SWAP PARTITION. I have MySQL table with fields like FName, LName, Add, City etc. I plan to use the @@filed_name@@ typo for positioning for unique text for which I need to map the @@filed_name@@ with the appropriate MySQL table cols. fedora core cd not working

hi, i recently purchase red hat fedora core bible. i got fedora cd with it. however when i tried to install fedora it started the installation, formatted my drive and started copying the packages. however it terminated half way stating some fatal error about bad media and stopped the installation. i thought the cd was bad and replaced the book and cd. however i got the same problem with the other cd. can anyone tell what the problem is? regards, kevin

After doing this any file created in the folder will have the group ownership of the desired group so that all the group members can have proper access to the folder once they login with their respective usernames and passwd's. I have redhat 9 running on my PC and i just finished installing suse 9.1 . After installing suse , there is no entry of my redhat 9 in the bootloader whereas my windows partition is detected perfectly. i want my bootloader to be of redhat and there sud be and entry of suse in it. how do i go about doin it ? i hav installed both of dem in different partitions on the same drive.

cdwriters: k3b: kernel 2.6.8+

Hi This is just for info. There is a problem with kernel s 2.6.8+ and k3b where it cannot detect most writers properly and hence shows up as a normal drive instead of a writer under k3b. This is a kernel issue as claimed by the k3b team. solution: kernel 2.6.7 or lower (i personally have shifted to 2.4.27 b/c i find 2.6.8 & .10 rather unstable with my snd-card & ide times out too often ) or do not use k3b. so before giving up on ur writer, please try one of the above. It might not be a writer problem. It is still not clear how many writers (or if all) are affected, but it seems to be fairly wide spread. BTW: anybody using kernel 2.6.8+ with k3b ?? which writer / kernel rgds Erle

As far as tally goes the data can be exported for back up as it is a property database I dont know if 5.4 allows you to export it to oter databses I asked a friend of mine and he says that tally 6 can do that not quiet sure of 5.4. hi, i want to buy a lan card for my cable internet connection. i would like to know which lan cards are compatible with linux. i have yoper linux installed and would like to use the internet from it. it would be nice if the lan card was auto detected and i would not require to mess up with the hardware configuration to use the lan card as i am relatively new to linux.. regards, kevin.

The one size fits all is long over. And branding and service headaches will ensure a healthy spread of companies and services. If anything this frag is the best thing to have happened to the computing industry. Watchout for new PCs with Powerpc cpus instead of i386. Dear all, Have just discovered a neat way to connect to pacenet with Mandrake 10 installed. Just reinstall Mandrake 10 all over again. Only click on Upgrade instead of a full install and the system detects the pacenet internet connection. All one needs to do is then enter details like DNS server details, username@linuxuser etc and begin surfing. only problem the connection is 'always on' now trying to find ways to log off since my account is of a limited nature. shiv kumar __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
