Hi Team, I have 4 postfix relay configured with Local DNS cache. I am facing a problem for MX host Look Up for only one particular domain . Whenever I restart named service it works fine for few hours but again the same issue comes back. Please suggest. Another Blow To Oracle In Google-Java Lawsuit

The pre-mature 'conclusions' of Oracle winning the case against Google in the ugly Java battle seems to be falling apart. The court has given an order which makes it clear that Oracle must simplify the case by bringing the patents claim down to a triable number. In case Oracle fails to do that the court will wait for the US Patent Office to verify the patents in question -- which will take quite some time. The reason behind this decision is that the court doesn't want to drag this trial longer. Call for collaboration on few Kernel projects

Hi All, Got a Tablet that runs Android (Kernel 2.6.36.3 on ARM Cortex A9). Was pleasantly surprised to see that I can apply Linux knowledge for Android development. Working on these two hobby projects: 1. Enabling Bluetooth DUN 2. Enabling 3G USB sticks Primarily, this would involve 1. Modifying Kernel modules (E.g. usb_modswitch) to work on ARM and to work without glibc. 2. Shell scripts for loading modules + setting up networking (E.g. ppp) via userland tools. On Android, we have: 1. Code that already works on other Linux systems 2. Easy to use dev environment and build/debug tools 3. Linux userland tools (via BusyBox) Please let me know if you want to collaborate or help. All work would be maintianed as open source on some repository like Github / Sourceforge / Google Code. On Ubuntu 10.10, Reliance Netconnect, Broadband+ works out of box, with following one issue: It takes long time (2 to 4 minutes), to appear in Network Manager. What could be the issue, and can we do something (to issue some command, run script, or setting) to make it appear in less time (say 10 seconds). -- H.S.Rai

Hello everyone, Most of you must be aware of the Indian tech startup Notion Ink, which has released its much-awaited nVIDIA Tegra 2 based tablet, Adam, which runs on Android 2.2. You must also be aware that Google has not released the source code of Honeycomb (Android 3.0), claiming that much work needs to be done, but some large hardware manufacturers like Motorola, Acer, Asus etc. already have access, and have released their Honeycomb tablets based on nVIDIA Tegra 2 to a great public reception. The Adam tablet is technically as capable as the rest of the Tegra 2 devices, but it suffers from lack of access to the latest operating system. On the other hand, Notion Ink has been supportive of efforts by hackers to improve upon the device software, which has given us various alternative ROMs, root access, etc. As of now, the community of hackers organised around the forum at http://tabletroms.com is focusing its effort on porting Honeycomb to the Adam and other 'left out' tablets. This work is being done by tweaking the system dumps obtained out of the existing Honeycomb tablets, and so far, there has been substantial progress in getting it to run on the Adam. Just wanted to point out that the non-free stuff installed during installation is not the same as ubuntu-restricted-extras. This will have to be installed separately. Ubuntu 11.04 First Impressions

Hello, I tried out the Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit edition on my system and was amazed at the new UI. It looks like a mix of Android, Apple and Ubuntu-Netbook-Edition. The developers have thoughtfully eliminated the horizontal bars and put the menu vertically on the left had side. Nowadays with monitors short in height but stretched wide, there is surplus space on the vertical sides. There is this new Libre-Office. I wonder if there is some dispute with OOo? The Apple like feature is the permanent menu bar that adapts into the open application's menu bar and back after the application is closed. I had tried to interest some institutes in training, but most of them are unprofessional and provide mere theoretical knowledge. Companies that need django developers have to spend too much time training their recruits. Reliance 3G USB Mobile Broadband Dongle

Hi, Have Anyone configured Reliance 3G USB Mobile Broadband Dongle on Ubuntu Linux 10.04 ? I can see it in dmesg and lsusb,but the NM applet does not detect it. I have added usbserial and options in /etc/modules and rebooted the laptop still it does not get detected by NM (Network Manager). Have added usb-modeswitch and usb-modeswitch-data. I have the latest modemmanager and NM and Tried all options but works fine in Ubuntu Linux 10.10. Any clue ? Regards, Kaushal

Problem - How to install Software package on a Linux System when it do not have Internet ? I know there are multiple solution to this problem.. But unfortunate people took it as different OS and hesitated to installed SchoolOS. There is no momentum in SchoolOS project from last 4 months. I hope, people will love this solution. I am trying to solve all common problem which normal user face. For example, In SchoolOS , I compiled list of command-line operations which normal user do, and then I created nautilus script to do same thing from GUI.. Well this solution is not for user who can run command line "apt-get install ...", its for them who want to install it using just ONE CLICK. There will not be any dependency problem WHY - ? because I am creating these bundles on freshly installed system. I am no going to Install anything on this system. So I am minimum number of packages on my system which you will be having. Let me repeat again. Step 1) Install Ubuntu Step 2) Click on this 3GB bundle and this will install almost all software which you ( office guy, programmer, engineer, students) need. Hi all, Please suggest me a GNU/Linux distribution with following features: 1. After installing it with CD/DVD, most of packages available for it can be installed from same or another CD/DVD. High speed Internet connection should not be required for installing default packages available for it. 2. It should not be much resource consuming. Should work on an old system such as P-IV with low amount of RAM such as 512MB. 3. Latest version of LAMP related packages should be available on it. 4. It should support Tata Indicom Photon Plus connection. 5. Codes of common audio and video format should be available on it by default. 6. Hello List, For electronics engineers, when using open source EDA tools, one of big challenge is component schematic symbols. If you are creating symbol for component with more than 100 pins, it becomes very time consuming and challenging to create error free symbols. Here is a simple program to create symbols for open source EDA kicad. The idea is to describe symbol in .csv format and convert .csv to schematic symbol. At preset program supports Kicad only, but we as a community can expand the program to include as many EDAs(free/commercial) as we can. So that manufactures may start distributing .csv files for their components. Hence I request, if you know Java, have time and know some symbol formats, please contribute. Screen brightness problem in ubuntu 10.04

Hello Everybody, This is my first post in the mailing list. I have Acer Aspire 4741Z laptop. After installing Ubuntu 10.4 everything is working out of the box. Only problem is I am not able to adjust screen brightness using Fn + left/right arrow keys. When I press those keys slider moves, but screen brightness does not changes. As brightness is always at maximum it drains battery fast. I have updated my distro with all latest patches and updates including latest kernel patch. But still have the problem. I even posted this problem on ubuntu forums also, but no luck there. Searched ubuntu forums also but found nothing. Is anyone else having same problem? Configuring Dnsmasq server

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and I have installed dnsmasq to resolve local domain say www.example.com. In dnsmasq I have configured these settings. address=/example.com/127.0.0.1 listen-address=192.168.0.3 The dnsserver is my laptop on which I have my xampp too. On my laptop I have given 192.168.0.3 as default DNS and it works fine. when I type www.example.com on Browser. On my desktop I'm running Windows which is having 192.168.0.2 IP. But the desktop is not resolving www.example.com I have changed default DNS to 192.168.0.3 and these two machine are connected via mtnl router and also I'm able to ping vise versa. -- Regards Mukesh Yadav

Sync and backup with latest modification time

Hi all, I liked the rsync utility for sync and backup in ubuntu. e.g. rsync -arH <source> <destination> would backup files in archive mode(-a), recursively(-r) and preserve hard links(-H). Using this, destination is modified based upon the filesize differences. How do I make rsync to take backup based on latest modified time, doesn't matter if destination file size is larger or smaller than the source file? Anyone have suggestion to use some other/better sync and backup utility than rsync? Any help would be appreciable. Thanks, Sagar Belure
