Hello Luggers, I am using Technoinfosys sbs 2004 server with fetchmail on it to download the mails for all users having pop and imap email accounts,my problem arises when i have to configure hotmai account on it.Most of the users use hotmail account.As if i know hotmail uses http protocol and port 80 for mail download.If anybody has done it please pass on the information to this list so others like me can benefit fom it. hello everybody, i have got a problem...so can anyone help me = out with it ...ok the problem i am trying to compile and install FWBuiler f= irewall (www.fwbuilder.org) from it's source codei have resolved all it's d ependeces ... i have also installed gtmm's rpm (gtkmm-1.2.10-fr3) which i h= ad download from ( http://shrike.freshrpms.net/rpm.html?id=1321 ) now when i compile it as mentioned in the documentation i get an error as mentioned below checking for gtkmm-config... no configure: error: gtkmm not present or not configured alth= ought i have installed 1)gtkmm2-2.2.3-fr1.i386.rpm and 2)gtkmm2-devel-2.2.3= -fr1.i386.rpm now can anyone tell me what is the problem...and= if there is a problem in setting the path then please do guide me in that matter.... hello, i am sure ppl have had a look at shashdot there is a post discussing Apple's "cease and desist letter" ( not completly sure what it means ) to sarovar.org for hosting playfair. Playfair is software one can use for playing music purchased from Apple's iTunes service on PC's. Hi guys, I've been an ardent fan of redhat until now. Before you go "here cometh another convert to the debian church", let me tell you its Gentoo magic I'm talking about. There's something quite magically simple with gentoo thats unbeatable by other distros. First, source compiled from scratch. all u need to do is , well, nothing. agreed u need a 24/7 access to net to get it installed but let me tell you its worth the effort. I haven't faced a single compiling prob. or installation either. To give you a taste of whats running on my nifty P4 1.5ghz - 2.6.5 kernel with patches. alsa works without me doing anything. - gnome 2.6 for desktop. (emerge gnome-2.6, thats it!) - xorg-x11, (do i have the bragging rights for this one in the grp ? or is fedora already there ?) - the latest and the greatest of any software u can name of - kde, abiword, oo, xmms, mplayer, gaim, ayttm all the standard fare. Name any software and i'll only tease u by installing it in the next half an hour or so. And best of all ! compiled for my machine only ! with flags of my own spec. Now before we start whining how it isn't possible for everyone to install a source based distro, there's precompiled packages avlbl. from gentoo on a single iso that removes the pain of downloading most of them. the rest which you would want can be downloaded onto a cd, dumped into distfiles and presto it picks em and works its magic. Best of all - if u ain't happy with the options compiled into ur prog. change em and it won't crib ! Mandrake was close to beating them, but they lost it when they couldn't get rid of the dependency hell, and I don't blame them. And their forums are a part of the internet legend now. Post ur query and the guys ans in the next few mins. Gentoo is yet to make a decent hw detection tool tho. and a nice installer wouldn't hurt. If you've used linux for any decent period of time, its time u give this simply flexible distro a whirl on ur spare hdd. installing GAIM (PCQ edition) on redhat 9

Hi. I have moved to Redhat 9.0 from PCQ Linux 2004. I prefer the gaim that came witn pcqlinux as it allowed to me to log on to msn seamlessly. I then tried to install the rpm from the PCQ CD gaim-0.71-2.i386.rpm but it gave me the following error message: Failed dependencies: libaspell.so.15 is needed by gaim-0.71-2 libgtkspell.so.0 is needed by gaim-0.71-2 then i downloaded the gaim which supports msn but i got the same error message as above. Any hints? Also downloaded amsn but it asks for the tls1 path to be specified in preference, which i did not it still does not start up (continues to show the popup window to select the system arch and download the tls1 files.) abhi

Hi all. Thanks for the various posts regarding gaim. I am still downloading and satisfying all dependencies. Should take some more time (hopefully the last rpm i am downloading) Now to another issue: The Setup is Linux (ofcourse). Redhat 9.0 Need to have a smart shutdown procedure in place where in the event of a power failure (ups takes over being the obvious step), but in case of an extended power outage, the system should do a clean shutdown. The UPS will be attached ONLY to the linux machine so 500/700 VA would suffice. What next? What are the options? a) Managed UPS? if yes, which one? cost? b) Ordinary will do? if yes, then what daemon will work? Any and all help is always appreciated... thanks! abhi

sending mail using mutt/sendmail

Hi, I was trying to use MUTT for recieving and sending emails from my mail server. I could configure MUTT to recieve my emails(through POP3) but I am unable to do so for sending them(through SMTP). When I send email from MUTT it keeps displaying(infinitely) "Sending Message..." at the status bar. I then have to manually kill 'sendmail' to stop it. After killing sendmail MUTT says "Mail Sent". Also when I send email using MUTT the From: field has the user id of my local account with which I login i.e. <root@>. I want the From: field to my have email address i.e. myself(a)mailserver.com. Assume my mail configurations are: smtp=mail.mailserver.com userid=user123 password=password123 from=myself(a)mailserver.com NOTE:myself != user123 NOTE:I require authentication at mail.mailserver.com using userid and password. Win 2k3 SBS is different from its previous lot and is a good operating system ( technically), providing good number of features. ( Don't put cost and Freedom issues for time being) In the release of Longhorn, which should support IPv6, the idea is, if you need to enable IPv6 support then -> Right Click in My Networks -> Click Properties -> Check the Box which says Enable IPv6 support. Imagine doing this with Linux kernel based system. (Read the HOWTO and follow the steps). Do you get the difference? Senthil

Hello Luggers, I am implementing a web based accounting software(http://www.sql-ledger.com) on GNU/Linux(PCQLinux 2004)I have set up the package properly as documented on the site.But now while starting postgresql i get the following error "DBI connect failed : FATAL: No pg_hba.conf entry for host localhost, user postgres, database template1" If anybody previously worked with sql-ledger please help me out. multipage tiff

hi, I want to create a multipage tiff file, from a group of pnm files and later convert it back to pnm files. this is what I have tried: pnmcat command creates a multipage pnm file. pnmtotiff command with g3 option converted it to a tiff file with good compression. Hi all, sometimes back i remember there was a discussion going on here about GPRS. recently bought a nokia 6610, sans data cable. I would like to know folowwing 1. is there any doc or HOWTO about using gprs cell as modem 2. orange provides gprs for 99 pm, rite? what are the features provided in it. 3. is gprs worth it practically, what download speeds will i get shall i go for it? Hi, I'm a newbie, running fedora core 2 test 1. I'm using a 10 year old analog monitor and I need to adjust brightness while watching videos. I'm unable to set the bightness, hue, saturation etc. in Xine, Mplayer, Quake 3 arena, infact, in every program that has brightness adjust. My graphics card is an NVIDIA TNT2 Riva M64. Hello luggers, Now our company have shifted to linux platform.Previuosly we wee using windows OS and tally for managing the company accounts.Now as we have migtared to linux we need some good web based accounting package which can be installed on our intranet server and all the users should have authenticated access to the web based accounting package(for example an application written in php+mysql+Apache) .Also one more reason to have central web based application is that on windows we have to install the accounting package on all the client workstations,but with this kind of web based application we wont need to install any client software and purchase seperate licence for all those client pc's. I have searched sourceforge.net,googled but with no results.Please point me to some useful links where i can get this kind of software package or if anybody does develope such application's feel free to contact. The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), also known as the codemakers and codebreakers cryptologic division within the Department of Defense, has helped to harden Linux with newly-released Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) kernel modifications. The SELinux improvements mark a major breakthrough for Linux. Because of the NSA's contributions to the kernel, the new security features will now show up in mainstream distributions of Linux. SELinux was released by the NSA under the GNU GPL open source license. SELinux is essentially a Linux Kernel with a number of utilities that provide enhanced security functionality.
