U mentioned site works with wget and browser, i am confused where u dont get this site, at the server or the clients, and how do u check the availability of the sites, i presume one use a browser to check it. Traceroute may not always work at icmp etc. are blocked or droped on many sites, u want even be able to ping them. The best way to get to know about these sites and this problem is try the command dig www.samachar.com on linux or on Win NT nslookup www.sify.com Regards Yayati. IP / QoS Question

Hello, I am trying to find information on how I can set a priority flag in the ToS field of an IP packet in Linux. I was reading a DLink document, which mentioned that new NIC cards have this capability to enable QoS on networks. However, I was unable to google any info on how to do this in Linux using ioctl / socket API calls (???) at the application level. I am new to all this, so I am quite sure I am not looking in the right places :-( Thanks for any pointer. Regards Shahed.

Just type this on the gateway console # tcpdump you must be using a dual homed machine as your gateway not quite a efficient method BUT generally helps in finding which PC has a network virus or a trojan.... you'll see the affected machine ip just filling up your screen. If its a windows machine, just download sygate personal firewall available on download.com, its a freeware on the affected machine, check the applications that are accessing network resources using SPF, you'll definitely find the trojan.... Pramila , Why don't you check your mount point of all filesystems in /etc/fstab file . I use knoppix 3.3 and this where i came to know about mount point of hard disk,cd,floppy. Problems with the 2.6 kernel?

Hi, I have been having a few problems with the 2.6.4 kernel. => INIT: Id "3" respawning too fast : disabled for 5 minutes At this moment I had just logged off from console 3, but it was just hung there... the login prompt didn't come on. References to this error on the net date back to 2002, no new ones. And all of them speak of program bug. But no recent references, so I'm stuck with it right now. => atkbd.c: Keyboard on isa0060/serio0 reports too many keys pressed Happens sometimes when I press C-x C-s to save my files in emacs. Doesn't happen all the time though. Also, its not the hard error that has been referred to on quite a few forums. Its an informative error that just goes away after screwing up the console for you. Especially irritating when working on a curses based interface. => The system slows down and goes for a stroll like as if it were windows. Happens generally when I have around 4-5 instances of Mozilla Firebird open along with applications like gxine and/or Evolution or dpkg running in the backround (in short, some of the heavy stuff). Earlier version of the kernel I had (2.6.0) would handle almost 3-4 times the load much more efficiently. I'm running a 500MHz Celeron with 192 MB RAM and 10 GB HDD (4.5GB for Linux and 128MB swap) I just wanna know if its something to do with my compile options or my hardware (keyboard all messed up?) or its just the bugs in the kernel. LDAP authentication problem

I am trying to setup user authentication thru a LDAP directory on my SUSE LINUX 9.0 box. I have set up a openldap server and added a few users. I have also configured pam_ldap & nss_ldap module so that I can use LDAP to authenticate unix users. however I am now unable to logon onto my machine. my passwd is accepted but i am again prompted for login & password. I am also not able to login as root. I would appreciate any help. dear friends, I have an intel machine pentium 4 . I had installed knoppix 3.3 on my machine . Yesterday i reinstallled my machine with Windows Me. But after doing this the lilo dosen't appears on the screen and i am directly being sent to windows Me.How do i solve this problem ? I thought of making a bootable disk of linux from windows but i am unable to get the required information as to from where should i get the bootable file or how should i make linux bootable disk in my windows Me operating system .Plz if anybody knows it . Why linux operates my H/D at 33MHz PIO????? :-(

hi, i use RH9 and Fedora core1 as OS with grub as os loader. both of this uses my ATA 1333 compatible H/D as 33PIO by default. i am changing it to 66MHz manually every time i boot the M/c by issuing " idebus=66" command at the grub prompt. pls give me the permanent solution for this!!! I am doing linux network progarming in C++ and QT right now. can some one help me by explaining me how can i integrate C++ and QT so that i can pass values/strings comming to my over the network can be passed to the QT forms and strings of the QT forms from textbox cab be passed on the network on the packets!! pls. give me some good references to the sites where i can find good QT and C++ integration examples. thanx -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Choose from over 50 domains or use your own

Speeding up Linux adoption

Dear all, I am writing a note on detailing Free/Open source projects that can speed up the adoption of Linux and would like to hear from the list members on this subject. I would like to create a sharply defined list of say, ten specific problems which students from engineering colleges can be asked to solve. Ideally, these problems should be solvable by a group of people within 3-6 months so that these students can achieve a tangible goal. Some of the suggestions I have received so far have been interesting. These include: * Developing an open source tool like VM Ware that can run both Windows and Linux off the same CPU * Developing an open source VoIP product like Skype * Getting Internet Explorer working (natively?) on Linux (This will be of particular help in increasing the penetration of Linux in banks since many banking applications, though browser based, are optimized to work on Linux) * Reverse engineering Tally file formats and developing an open source financial accounting package (or getting Tally to work--natively--under Linux) * Developing translation mechanisms for converting Internet content from English to Indian languages and from one Indian language to another * Developing tools like Ximian Connector to connect to Micosoft Exchange server etc. If anyone can add to this list, I shall be grateful.
