hi please check whether the terminals you are trying to login using the root id is listed in the securetty file located in /etc/securetty. If your terminal (tty1, tty2 .. etc) is not listed in this file then you wont be able to log in as root from these terminals in such cases you will have to resort to the su command. Hello , I need to develope a basic GUI in Qt. I have connected PushButton's Click signal to one custom slot of the Form. In this slot I want to call a function written in c which is in a separate file having following prototype & that file is included in my main application .. char* file(char *a) The argument to this function , I want to be text of QLineEdit widget when i write Table4->setText(rows,0, file(LineEdit1->text().latin1())); & compile it gives error invalid conversion from `const char*' to `char*' do i need anything else than latin1() ? Dear abbasali, the rh9 stock kernel does not have support for ntfs file systems, so u'll have to rebuild ur kernel with modular ntfs support..... Learn kernel hardening thats it.. simple search the internet for steps... Hi all, Please ignore previous mail. I wish to try out small foot print linux distributions. I have at my dispense a - HP Vectra Pentium 100 24MB RAM 80MB IDE HDD / 250MB IDE HDD onboard S3 Trio64 Keyboard I wish to turn this system into a blackbox system which can be accessed remotely either via terminal or via ppp link (Ethernet is currently optional, but its in plan for future). Currently I have installed Redhat 6 on this. ttyS0 is configured for serial terminals using mingetty. ttyS1 is configured for PPP access via null modem cable. Currently I can access the machine fine via above setup. But I want to explore more into this kind of system so that maximum flexibility can be provided in it. The current installation without X setup takes 200MB which I cam sure can be stripped down to basics. Any pointers??? I have downloaded ETLinux today but yet to try it. Hi there, If anyone uses GAIM .71, could you help me out with this error? My HTTP connections have to go through a proxy server, i.e. 10.1.1.21 which runs on port 8080. GAIM gives me this error message when i try to log in server: gaim 0.71 logging in mathew2002 using Yahoo dns: DNS child 2091 no longer exists dns: Created new DNS child 2092, there are now 1 children. dns: Host '10.1.1.21' resolved http proxy: Connecting to scs.yahoo.com:5050 via 10.1.1.21:8080 using HTTP http proxy: Connect would have blocked. http proxy: Connected. proxy: Proxy server replied: ( Proxy Error ( SSL port specified is not allowed. ) what could be the problem.. thanks in advance Mathew

how to reduce the startup time of mozilla ? currently on my rh 9.0 box its taking quite a bit of time. Using Mozilla 1.5 custom compiled. I tried every bit of optimization. Gentoo and Mandrake claim first time startup of approx 3 seconds. I tried using the same options mentioned in the ebuild script of gentoo. Mine goes 3 seconds on 4th or 5th loading. Is there somewhere else i should look for optimization ?? Is it possible to have non-blocking sound devices in alsa ?? As in, is there a way so that i can play on xmms and mplayer simultaneously ?? As of now if i'm running xmms then all the other sound events/apps get blocked. Is there any way out ?? Well I have tried D4x and it is a better dload manager than prozilla . My connection bandwidth was used really well . Only one problem is that it cannot connect redirected urls . Also can anyone tell me how can I integrate it with my opera browser ? So that i can use D4x as my default download manager .

I am unable to install Redhat Linux 6.1 or 7.3 on my new Intel 845GVAD2 motherboard with PIV 2.4 GHz. It gives me some anaconda, pythan ,etc error with an ok and debug button as options in ver 6.1 whereas in ver 7.3 it says some anaconda script error occured. it ejects the cd and says it is now safe to reboot the system. i tried installing linux ver9 and it installed perfectly. but i want to use ver 6.1 or 7.3 since i am building a cache server on it. please help. btw, i just returned the hyperthreading board processor and sata hard disk since it is not supported at all by ver 6.1 or 7.3. please help nelson
