Can you put a comment for a tag in CVS

Hi Folks I am currently using CVS for managing my codebase. I am using Cervisia integrated into Konqueror. I can put a comment when I "commit" my files. I find this feature very useful. [ILUG-BOM] need a help in changing access permission of a floppy disk

hello evryone, i m a new to linux. recently i have installed redhat linux on my home PC. I am doing some work on linux file system... and refering to the source code given by linux. i have prepare one doc on that...but i can;'t take it on a floppy... means i can read files from floppy but can't save files on the floppy.. or can't modify the files which are in the floppy.(no write permission)...heeeeellllllp.... there may be some files where i can change the rights of a floppy disk.. but i don;t know which file and how to do that... i asked one of my friend.. but it didn't work.. rather i didn't understand how to do that.. can anyone please give me the detail information abt this.. i mean steps to resolve his prob.... i have created a document on linux. and that i want to give in the college for seminaar purpose.. but now becoz of this prob i can't take it on a floppy.. Not mounting CDROM and Floppy

Hi Friends, I have installed Mandrake 9.0 in my machine and I am not able to mount the CD ROM and Floppy. In the fstab and mtab files, the following lines are there. none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0 How to solve the the problem? Emacs SSH color source

Problem with viewing TIFF files.

Dear luggers, I have few scanned images, most of which are in jpeg format, but some of them are in tiff format. The problem I am facing is with images stored in tiff format. (I have a P4 1.7 cpu, with 256 MB DDR memory using Intel mother board 845GB and Nvidia Riva TNT2 display card.) Coming to the problem, while trying to view tiff files the system goes into spin. First of all the system memory gets completely used up. The system starts using swap memory to the extent of 200+ MB (I have 500+ MB swap partition). The system starts lot of disk i/o and even after almost 2-3 mins, there is no display of the tiff file. I tried with some of the small tiff files I have (around 15 images total), but with all the files I saw the same problem. The smallest tiff file size is around 150 KB. I have around 4-5 images around that size, and the rest are more then 1 MB. I didn't have the heart to try to view the bigger ones. These same files I am able to view in Windows without any stress on the CPU or memory. I tried using different viewer softwares to check out if there was any problem with any specific software. I tried "Eye for Gnome", "Qview", KDE's default viewer "Kview", and also "Kuickshow". I switched on the KSystem Guard to find out what happens. I found that the moment I clicked on any of the tiff files, the system memory gets used up to the maximum and the system starts lot of swap activity. Then I killed the image viewer process and I got a system message given some details about imlib. I couldn't understand much and there was not much detail in it. It was probably because I killed the viewer process while it was trying to display the image. I presume that there is some problem with some graphic library (imlib?) which the image viewer software(s) is/are trying to use to display tiff images. Okay, one more thing, I tried this with both Red Hat Linux 9.0 and with SuSE 8.2, but with same results. (BTW, I must say SuSE Linux is quite impressive then any other distribution that I have used till date. I have been using Red Hat since its version 5.2, and have used Mandrake 8.2, 9.1.) One more interesting aspect about this is that I tried viewing these files using a Windows based software called "Irfan View" using Wine. And to my surprise I could view the tiff file without much problem, albiet a bit slow then in Windows, but no swapping nor eating up memory. Any Pointers? Knoppix customization and remastering

Hello to all linuxites My college was thinking of using the knoppix cd based version for their OS practicals thus eliminating need of installing linux on each machine. the students need mostly command line for practicals. It needs to be on a network while on knoppix as it's in case when it's on windows. Configuring the card everytime a person boots is a mess I was wondering if that could be done while booting itself ( either by assignin a static ip per cd or giving it a dhcp server name in the script) we could run a dhcp server from a linux. A samba would be required to store data to a windows machine which will act like a server or can I use a machine that's running only rh8 with a ftp deamon? KNOPPIX Remastering/customization;problem with apt-get

hi, Kapil has asked me to try apt-setup, before using apt-get update. i tried it but after choosing the mirror for ftp, it gives an error that it could not connect to MY INSTITUTE's ftp site...time out.. i think it has to do something with the proxy settings. hi, Kapil has asked me to try apt-setup, before using apt-get update. i tried it but after choosing the mirror for ftp, it gives an error that it could not connect to MY INSTITUTE's ftp site...time out.. i think it has to do something with the proxy settings. Hi everyone, The main reason for low turnout for Sept 14th meet was the fact that the announcement was made at the last minute and no agenda was set in advance. The minutes of the meeting : Meeting starrted at usual time, and as usual i bumped in late. Dr Nagarjun had got along is beautiful Apple Book. Those who werenot there seriously missed something. The other issue over the meeting revolved around localization efforts of Prof J Shah and how low cost computing can be clubbed with localization project to make affordable computing solutions. Also the venue and agenda for next meet are also in place. October Meet : Date : 11th October 2003 - Venue : VJTI - Mechnical Dept 1st Floor - Computer Lab / Classroom. Please help me with setting up a mail server for my college I want to know what software should I use and what distro is better for this work I have PCQlinux 7.3 PCQlinux 8.0 and redhat 9.0 The requirement s is as given below WE need to schedule the email downloads from our main webserver through a ISDN line. We need web based interface for the staff to be able to check their mail All mails sent to the domain endup in a single IMAP /Pop3 acc come to xyz(a)some.com that email needs to be sorted according to the TO address into different mailboxes It even needs to act as an outgoing email server too. Now coming to proxy I want to knwow if squid is the one I should use. Solaris experience?

Hello I am being interviewed for some jobs where they are asking for Sun Solaris experience. For a long time I have been a *nix user but did not pay too much attention to the System V vs the BSD camps. I know Solaris falls into the BSD camp. How different is it from Linux? My experience is in System V, AIX and Linux (some HP/UX). Having this experience, what areas of Solaris should I focus on to get my foot in the door. What I was striving for was the penguin logo :). I had to compile the driver into the kernel for that though. > probably the same would go in 2.6 too. Its quite different in the 2.6 kernel. Its been officially included in the kernel as i810fb. BTW, does anybody know if I can get the logo without compiling the framebuffer and the fbcon drivers into the kernel? How? I tried for days, just could'nt get it. Finally settled with bloating my kernel by a few KBs. (Sorry boss... the penguin's kinda cool ;)) Regards, Siddhesh.
