Hi! Does anyone have a set of Debian 2.2r6 potato CDs/ISO images that I can have a copy? I shall be equally satisfied if I get the 3.0 Woody. I need it rather urgently to setup a cluster in my school. If someone who has access to a permanent internet connection and is able to download it for me, that will be greatly apppreciated. I can also bring my laptop over and copy it if that is OK with you. I can also pay a reasonable sum to someone who can make it available to me. Please reply to my email account. Thank you. Vikas.

well... thanx for all the options..but i would bide some time before experimenting with any thing.meanwhile i will buy a 2nd hand desktop, thngs that ignorant people give for a throw away price and run linux on it. btw.. i tried to use partition magic , the only partitioning software which supports win xp but i dont think i used it properly.so i am yet stuck with one partition. i was not able to change the boot sequence to run my linux bootable on the laptop by going to SetUp by pressing DEL in XP.how come? regards -NDK >At 05:23 PM 7/3/02 +0000, you wrote: >>On Wed, 03 Jul 2002 Nikhil D. configuring laptop in linux

Hi, I have installed RH 7.2 on compaq pressario laptop. But i am not able to configure gui in that. I tried with all permitation combination. It has got Trident Cyber Blade display card. But if i select this card from list the screen gets blank & laptop gets hanged. Details of laptop is as follows Compaq Presario Model 1200. Try using nmap to scan the ports and see if any unncessary services are not running in the background. Just check if the admin (or you!) logged in from a cable connection somewhere!

Caveats with gnome-terminal (gnome-core-1.4.1)

For those of you who use gnome-terminal to start console applications from gnome, bear in mind that it no longer accepts quotes around multi word application names. So: gnome-terminal -e "pine -i" now becomes gnome-terminal -e pine -i but gnome-terminal -e "pine" still works. -- Speak the truth. Installing Linux on laptop

hello, is it true that in order to install Linux on a laptop/desktop which comes pre-loaded with WinXP i have to format the ENTIRE hard drive? if so, is there a way i can avoid formatting the hard disk? are there any generic V.90 56k software modem drivers available for Linux which would be used for software modems of all makes? Is it actually Running.......i.e. Telnet / FTP services..?

Hi� Luggers, As I installed/configured Telnet / FTP server in RH Linux 7.2 If I checks it by following command of processes then it is showing me that the �xinetd� service is running. And if I checks it by �nmapfe� utility the scanning is showing me that Telnet and FTP ports are open in Red color. I m going to logon as a user ROOT to LOCALHOST with its password for Telnet session it gives me following error : telnet localhost or telnet 127.0.0.1 Login : root Password : Login incorrect Connection closed by foreign host. And in FTP session when logon as a user ROOT with its password it gives me following error : ftp localhost or ftp 127.0.0.1 Login : root Password : 530 Login incorrect Login failed. It is also not allowing me to Telnet Linux machine (192.168.0.1) from Windows machine (192.168.0.2) It gives me following error : For Telnet : Could not open a connection to 192.168.0.1 For FTP : ftp >ftp:connect:10071 ftp> But if I give ls command then it shows me �not connected� msg. hello luggerz stuff going on here is real interesting for us. we are a group of 3 in final yr comp engg and were looking for a project when we met trevor who helped us with it and showed us some work. the Project Resource Center seems exciting. we spoke to trevor abt it in detail. we'd like to breal some ice now. we'll take up the resposibilty of making a list of projects if u ppl tell us a few places wher we can find them. we'll have the PRC up n running as soon as possible. trevor had three long term projects for us to choose from and the BootCD one sounded good. we take that up guys... do keep the guidance flowing... qmail questions?

does any1 know why the qmail /var/qmail is the root of the qmail file structure? i mean doesnt that go agains the unix file structure. since /bin/ etc files get stored in /var/ ? wouldnt it have been prefered if it would have been /usr/qmail or something ? also what bout the MUA's supporting qmail for POP mail access. which ones support qmail? what bout outlook and netscape?
