Can't read vfat partitions

I have one ext2 partition, two fat32 partitions and one fat16 partition. I can mount the ext2 and fat16 partitions, but am unable to mount the vfat (fat32) partitions. When I try to mount them, the hard disk makes a humming sound, and I get these errors: hda: timeout waiting for DMA hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } hda: DMA disabled ide0: reset: success hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error } hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=5221126, sector=1 end_request: I/O error, dev 03:01 (hda), sector 1 FAT bread failed mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1, or too many mounted file systems This happens everytime. I tried disabling dma and then mounting, and I get these errors: hda: read_intr: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error } hda: read_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=5221126, sector=1 end_request: I/O error, dev 03:01 (hda), sector 1 FAT bread failed mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda1, or too many mounted file systems I am unable to boot into the fat32 partitions either. I have not used Windows for several months now, so don't think that this is a windows related problem, and I was able to mount the partitions last night, but not since this afternoon. Shutdown was uneventful the last time I used the fat32 partitions. I have all my documentation stored on those partitions and refer to them frequently. Any ideas as to what has happened and how I may be able to fix it? Philip

Install ucd-snmp (aka net-snmp), and get the data transfer through the ip mib. Use ssh and a script to cut out the relevant values from your ifconfig output. First, because first-hand experiences with software and various tools that many ilugers have are invaluable. Secondly, sharing experiences and content will not only hon up your communication skills-but it will also evoke responses from people all over the world. Thirdly because India is a different country. For example, a small company in the US may even have 500 employees. In India that would be a medium-sized company. GNU/Linux is good for SMEs who want to save on their IT investments. Hell, in India small-companies are like 15-80 employees, perhaps even lesser. What is true off-shore won't be true here. One must realise that everything has a local twist. And most importantly you'd want to do this because, you would want to popularise GNU/Linux among Indian people - students especially. For this they must be able to relate to and maybe even meet the contributors. That's the whole issue of having a community isn't it? In contrast to your less-effort point, this will certainly require a lot more efforts-perhaps much more than we ever imagined. But the returns will be more promising. I was always wanted to learn and work on J2EE framework since i saw it's market potential :). But only thing preventing me was the commercial Application Servers like WebLogic and WebSpheer which are not free. Good news!! I recently came to know about the alternatives to these commercial servers in Open Source community too. As following report says, they are really powerful. Go through http://www.adtmag.com/article.asp?id=6461 and make ur hand dirty with JBOSS(which seems the best) App Server if u r really interested in J2EE. Most Linux developers I have encountered, use all their software for free. As a computer professional, I install the RedHat 7.2 or 7.3 Linux operating system and utilities onto a customer's computer(s) free of charge anyway. May I charge for software that I develop using C++ or Python and Qt/X11 Free Edition? May I make customers pay fair price for transfer/license of the computer professional's intellectual property, personal labor and operational costs incurred (salaries, rents, electricity, air-conditioning, etc.) not to mention profits/margins. Does developing software using a Free or Open Source software development environment, prevent/preclude me from legally selling (charging for), application programs and reusable components developed by me, without giving away the source code? What is our position with: copyleft, Free/Open Source, etc.? Ram

Dial-up on Mandrake?

I recently tried out Mandrake 8.2 distro on my Machine, the one that came with this months Digit. I soon realised that my days with wvdial were over. After making failed attempts to connect to my ISP.. I gave up. Can anyone give me pointers? Hi, I have been using Debian unstable on my machine for the more than a year now ... Are there other Debian users out there on the list?? I need to come up with arguments to atleast try out Debian instead of RedHat. I use it for the sheer ease of upgrades and stability. But I need arguments strong enough to convince sysads and end-users alike to try it out, and to justify setting up a Debian mirror. In fact, Debian is not too popular here in the IIT ... I posted a problem on the local newsgroups, and imagine, not a single reply!!! Debian users

Been using Debian unstable since last October. For development it is The Distro. It has ports to most (all the ones that i know of) CPUs, which is vital for embedded stuff. It has a sane dependency & package managment policy. It has the largest number of packages. It is the esasiest to upgrade and maintain (particularly with a fat net connection. Commercial distros try to create a "typical user" cd. A typicla developer environment is anything but typical. Further there will be no nasty suprises in the gcc or per seat licences or some other desperate manuover to stay alive. Debian has a life and world all it's own and will be around long after the commercial distros. Dear Ashok, Devdas Thanks , for help. After editing resolv.conf file solved my problem. Infact this file has wrong entry of IP address. Did u do chmod 711 on public_html and cgi-bin directory directory? Also u need ExecCGI on directory, /home/*/public_html/cgi-bin Plus I think you need mod_users module on. File Transfer between 2 webservers(JAVA Servelets)

hello friends, I am stuck up with one problem in JAVA servelts. I need to transfer one file object (a serialzable object) from one servelt running on a tomcat engine to another servlet running on another tomcat engine. both these have well defined IP address. modem detection problems

Hello, I recently upgraded to RedHat 7.3 ( I was previously using RedHat 7.1 ). I have a Motorola SM56 internal modem on my machine. I have the modem driver for RedHat 7.1 ( downloaded from the motorola WebSite ). I was using this to run my modem on my earlier Linux installation. The same driver doesn't seem to work with RH 7.3 ... I looked around for another driver that would work but had no luck. I'd be grateful if someone could tell me how to get my modem to work on RH 7.3 or give me link to a website that will tell me how to do it. Thanks, Rohit.
