Compile problem for PHP with PostgreSQL

Hi All, I have strange problem. I am not able to compile Postgres support into PHP4.0.4pl1. I have compiled PostgreSQL 7.1.3. My system is Slackware 8.0 with Linux kernel 2.4.17. If I try to compile pgsql support statically into PHP module, this module refuses to load in to Apache (1.3.20). If I compile pgsql support as shared lib for php module it does not load and logs this warning PHP Warning: Unable to load dynamic library 'pgsql.so' - pgsql.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 PHP module loads ok in Apache but I don't get pgsql support. I have tried every thing. Even searched on PHP's mailing lists and tried all the solutions posted there... Pls help... Red Hat 7.2 Installation: Partitioning?????

HI EVERYBODY, Here is a very basic question (but I am really stuck!! :| ) I have been trying to install red hat 7.2 on a win98 machine. Everything goes fine until the partitioning screen comes up. I have a hdd of 37 gb and I have repartitioned it to 27+10 with FIPS and want to use the new 10 GB partition (win95 FAT32) for linux. When I choose automatic partitioning screen, it declines to do that (space not available). Next when I come to the manual partioning screen, I cant proceed their either. When I select the hard drive partition of my choice and try to add new partitions (root, swap and boot), I get the same errors, space not available. And it woulnd't let me proceed. Once I have done partitionless install with linux 7.0 on the same machine without having hard drive partitioned by fips. And it worked fine. Unfortunately, as it seems, Red Hat 7.2 doesnt support partitionless installations. Any comments, suggestions, advises, must do's, undo's?????????? CD ROM problems Kernel 2.4.7-10

I recently installed RH7.2 using Seascope disks. Initially due to non availability of GLIBC (proper version ) on CD 1 of 2, only a minimal install was possible. Later on I loaded the RPM's one by one. My CDROm drive Samsung CD writer RW 8.4.32 is recognised by the kernel, but when i try to mount the CDROm, I get a message /dev/cdrom improper device or device does not exist. I have the following line in lilo.conf append="hdc=ide-scsi" This used to work and still works on Caldera with kernel 2.4.2 (PCQuest CD's)loaded in another partition. My creative infra CDROM has conked off so this is the only drive currently available with me. The CDROM is shown when the system boots up after Lilo in RH7.2 Any ideas in getting it working. Really Strange...

Dear Linuxers... I am scraching my head since yesterday.... due to my carelessness my system's /var showed 100% usage.. I deleted some old log files and freed about 1 gb of disk space.. Now, even after this df showed 100% usage... Until I restarted the box... After restarting the system i got 1gb free space... what command can i use to get the above job done without restarting the whole system... regards lilo

"Error setting up inter-process communication for KDE. Message is: Could not read network connection list /root/.DCOPserver_<hostname>_:0 please check that dcopserver is running!" OK I had enough of Linux (period) I've been using Linux for almost 2 years now. After getting bored of Windows I decided to remove it from my PC.I was running only Red Hat Linux 7.1 when I had a major filesystem crash. I even lost some of important data. One of my friends suggested that 7.1 had a buggy kernel and I should switch to 6.2 I installed 6.2 and everything was fine until today... The boot process 'dropped me to a shell' and advised me to run fsck manually. I obliged. Out of the blue I got a truckload of messages telling me that something was wrong and that should it fix it ? Amazingly the only answer was yes.I continued pressing 'y' for about 5 mins and then the ordeal was over. I logged in just to find that my ncurses libraries had been deleted ! And horror of horrors: my entire rpm database was gone... I did not want any more surprises. Being frustrated I decided to give myself a break. I removed Linux and now I'm running good ol' Win 98 :-) Anyone reading this please keep in mind : Curse Windows , Hate Windows ,Kick Windows but never and I say *never* remove Windows. hi everyone, I was tryign to read/write bits to 0x378 I/O port, using the ioperm() system call. But this allows only the root to access. HOw do normal users access the port? i did read about SETUID(), but i dont really understand how it works for me ?? does anyone have any pointers on this ?? Also i am trying to uderstand how ot access using read and write. for that i would need to add the user as part of the group, which can access /dev/port. Hi! I get confused by the versioning system of Linux. I would like to know why the versions are so cryptic and not easy to remember and understand like in the Redmond. I guess the general rule is: Software whose version has many odd nos. ---> Bad ( o.k. not so good ;-) even nos.---> Good Am I right? Also I've read that the first version of Linux kernel was 0.1 Why 0.1 ??? when it could have been 1 or 1.0 or whatever Also I've seen that kernels have huge version nos. Just a note... I think it is more proper for people to prefix their subject line with key words like COMMERCIAL, ANNOUNCEMENT, etc. to give a straight idea as to what the post contains. If a couple of bits in your PDF get complemented, the PDF will no longer be readable. The same with text, and there is very little data loss. This is probably irrelevant here, but still. 5. It will stand the test of time much better. What happens when we come to a time when there are no pdf viewers available and the format is lost forever? Reading plain text takes only a knowledge of the character set in use. If that is lost, it won't be all that hard for a cryptanalyst to figure it out. Hi In the source code of some packages, I have seen 'for (;;)' where 'while (1)' could have done the job. Is it related to the efficiency of the code generated ? I have also seen that the a java decompiler generated 'for(;;)' from the bytecode which was compiled with 'while(true)'. Hi there, I am a Linux newbie. I have downloaded red hat 7.2 via ftp under a windows 98 client and now I have to burn the CDs out of the complete distribution. Can anyone tell me which files to send to which CDs? I am confused about this. Total data is about 3 GB or something. Please help. CD writing trouble- SOS!

I'm using a Memorex CDRW-4224 to write some CDs.The process completes successfully, but when i try to mount them the CDs arent detected in the cdrom drive.I get a "no medium found" message. I'm at a loss to understand why this happens.The log shows nothing wrong except one message : "Warning: drive returns wrong startsec(0) using -150" I've managed to duplicate only one cd successfully using xcdroast, others are wasted.. Kernel Version and Driver installations

I was tying to install Linux on a real time system (via an external CD-ROM drive with DOS device driver only. So copy files to Hard disk using DOS and then install using the boot diskette. Linux 7.0 official RH pack was loaded. When we loaded the systems device drivers used for real time data acquisition using, we found tat the modules did not get installed due to incorrect kernel version. We had 2.2.16-22 and 2.2.12-18 was required. We got another version of driver for 2.4.2, I loaded the kernel from PCQ (july-Aug 2001) but the PCQ kernel was 2.4.2-2 and even this did not work. The message that I got was that the driver required kernel 2.4.2 while we had 2.4.2-2 installed. Why is this so? When drivers are made for one kernel version then why should it not work with a higher kernel version. Anand

An Indian group hopes to change that image with the Simputer, a device designed to bring portable computing and the information age to developing countries. The Simputer Trust, a group of individuals from the Indian Institute of Science, and Encore Software are behind the device. Vinay L. Deshpande, CEO of Encore, said the machine is expected to arrive in the second quarter. The finished product, which will run the Linux operating system, will be slightly larger than a Palm handheld but will operate as a simple portable computer. It will use 32MB of flash memory and 32MB of RAM. Other hardware features include a built-in modem, infrared port and USB port for connection with other devices. The interface comprises mainly icons and graphics on a 240-by-320-pixel touch screen. The device also supports text-to-speech capability and will be able to provide voice feedback in local languages, according to specifications provided by Encore Software. Sharp Electronics Singapore has been engaged to provide its monochrome and color LCDs, flash memory and smart cards for the Simputer. At a media briefing Friday, Encore said Sharp will also offer its engineering expertise to help with the development of the device. Sharp's Zaurus handheld, recently rereleased in the United States, also uses Linux. To use the Simputer, individuals will need to purchase a smart card to store personal information. Once inserted into the device, the card will provide access to private information, such as bank accounts. The Simputer will initially be available for government organizations. It will be targeted at businesses and consumers at a later date, Deshpande said. India will be one of the first countries where the product will be made available, he said. Bangalore, India-based Encore, which develops digital signal processor-based software and embedded systems, began the project two years ago, working on the idea of getting rural areas in India networked and connected to the Internet. The Simputer will be used in villages and districts so that small communities can share the device for various uses such as sending and receiving e-mail and carrying out banking transactions. qmail backup

Hello everybody, I'm running qmail-1.0.3 on my mailserver (linux kernel 2.4.2-2). I want to backup all the mails(header,body and attachments) going out through my mailserver.Can anybody tell me how to do it? I tried qmail-scanner(actually it is a virus scanner) which backs up all the incoming mails.But there is no provision to backup the outgoing mails. Thanx in advance. -Mahesh Gharat
