Anyway, we don't need an external website, just an internal one. And well, free broadband? Its pretty good, I've never had much complains. Just the router freezing, which can be turned on / off with the switch for a quick fix.

[OT] IT and Email Security

Hello, I was going through the news report about China having 'hacked' our defence computers and allegedly stolen some information. They are even alleged to have stolen email records of 1 year of the Dalai Lama. My query towards those who may have more information about the same is as follows. 1. Are the compromised machines running doze or Linux? If doze then they are asking for trouble. 2. Since emails are stored as a single database file, how does the attacker steal only one year's record? How does he remotely slice a database inbox file date wise and copy it unless he has had long term access to the user_name and password and keeps copying and saving mails together in a clone offline email client like Thunderbird etc. or one by one using a web interface. Otherwise he has to compromise the actual email server that is hosting the email software and steal the entire inbox file, which is more difficult. -- Regards, Rony. GNU/Linux ! Hi all, I registered the domain FOSS Guru some time back with the help from a friend in US. I finally want to announce that I am making it a magazine now. There have been many many a magazines in and out in the market and trust me all of them have sustained only because of the free dvd they come out with it. How is FOSS Guru different? I promise if you buy one copy of the magazine, you will archive it for ever. I am targeting it at all types and calibers of users, developers, system managers and architects. My magazine will have everything for everyone. The mag might be segment specific in each issue, so a ruby developer might want to buy only the FOSS Guru – Ruby Special. I am still thinking more. Trin Trin, Just a reminder, 3 day left for CFP ,,, ------------------ Hi all, It's that time of the year when we all come together and help all the humans to get rid off the proprietary software, yes my friends it's time for mukt.in. We feel great pleasure to present you mukt.in 2010. This time with a totally new concept and a new home. Previous editions have successfully inspired a lot of people, specially in Hyderabad about free software and brought them to the community. But due to the active Telangana issue this year, so we are not able to have it in Hyderabad this time. So, we have shifted base to Jaipur, Rajasthan. This time we are not accepting any talks , yes that's true. Mukt.in 2010 is going to be completely workshop based. It's our belief that hands on tutorial have a greater and better impact on the ones attending then only talking, and looking at the fact, most people attending it would be students from and around jaipur, because jaipur is a hub for engineering colleges. The mukt.in team invites submissions to its official un-conference , mukt.in 2010 to be held on 23rd and 24th April 2010 at Swami Keshvanand Institute of Technology (SKIT), Jaipur, Rajasthan. We cordially invite you to submit your CFP at http://mukt.in/cfp now. Important Dates and Time The last date for CFP submission is 8th April 2010.
