SiS900 LAN Card problem

hello guys! I've got a Acer Sx with SiS900 onboard lan adapter...which SuSE recognises during installation, but strangely, i see the rtl8139 module being loaded instead of the sis900 module. now, i wouldnt be complaining if it was working, but it aint...i can see eth0 and stuff, but cant hear any replies to my pings. so i do rmmod rtl8139 and insmod sis900, and the system complains that resource is busy.. well..so i shut down networking and _then_ do insmod..it returns without error, but alas! when i start networking it says eth0 - no such device... i have even downloaded the latest sis900.c and sis900.h files from the SiS site and tried to compile in the sis900 driver into the kernel..but still it doesnt configure eth0 at boot time. sigh! finally i'm posting this here..has anyone successfull configured this card?(if u have, are u still sane?) i suspect there might be some options that this card required, but i havent come across_any_ documentation regarding this. Its not mentioned in the white paper written by the blokes from SiS who wrote this driver.. anyway..ANY help is appreciated right now..i've gotta go and get me a Dispirin now.. kishor PS: i havent got any replies to my earlier query about my X problem.....is this Acer Sx such a rare piece? Problems with Opti931 Sound card in Caldera

Hi all, I have OPTi 82c931 as sound card for which i installed the Alsa driver .. The system is AMD-K6-II 500 with ViaMVP3 m/b I'm using Caldera OpenLinux 2.3 .. I installed the driver as instructed by the INSTALL file .. However even after inserting the module manually using modprobe, my PC is still mute .. Have tried to unmute the mixer in the KDE using kmix but it says 'You do not have enough permissions. Log in as root and chmod a+rw /dev/mixer' .. however I was logged in as root and it actually has full rwx permission for all .. Dunno what the problem is .. The contents of /proc/asound/sndstat says 'Audio Devices:Not enabled in config' Ditto for Synth Devices & Mixer Devices .. Now what does this config means ? Has any body configured such sound card previously ? Shud I post the pnpdump file alongwith the mail ? Please guide me .. Thanks in advance .. $ sonpal -kj

PQ Boot

I have installed Linux 6.0 along with a Win98 installation in a system, that had Partition Magic 6.0 and Power Quest installed. While I tried to install LILO, it didn't get installed -- is that because, Boot Magic is already installed as the MBR ? Normally, Boot Magic gives an option of booting into Win or if any other OS is installed. But in this case, I'm still having to use a Linux boot disk for booting into Linux :/
