pppoe inconsistency problem.

hello, I had configured roring penguine yesterday with the help of rony. it worked yesterday. I had configured it with ./go and it asked me the eth interface I gave it the right one. then it asked me the username and password. after that it asked me if I want it it to come up on demand and also the time for which I want it to stay up. I said yes I want it on demand. but I did not specify the amount of time I want it to be up. yesterday it was working fine but today it is not working. it is starting properly with pppoe-start but it is not connecting to the internet. We have a requirement for Back Office Support staff. The web based tools are developed on open source the OS is ubuntu. Prior knowledge of linux OS not essential but a plus. The job entails: a) Accessing data online and gathering relevant information. b) Making calls when necessary and gathering information. Most of the time you will be accessing IVR base systems and jotting down information and once in a while actually have to speak to someone. c) Prior knowledge of spreadsheets is a big plus. d) Excellent Communication skills, with an emphasis on spoken english. e) Willingness to work 5 PM to 11 PM initially for 2 months and then regular shift or evening shift. Livecd distro or alternative required

Hi I am working from a hotel room and have good amount of spare time on weekends. Can anyone suggest a suitable linux live cd whereby i can work on linux and save documents on to my laptop and most important learn programming. I am on a ibm t41 laptop. I have some books from where I can learn programming any other alternative similar to livecd also will be useful Ninad

A Desktop Concept.

Hello All, Yesterday I visited an old couple who had problems with their pc. While the problem was minor, I noticed that they were very unfamiliar to computers and were using it only to send and receive mail from their children abroad. They had noted everything down in a letter pad and would refer to it and try to figure out their way on the screen. The email program too was difficult to navigate as it had a lot of options and buttons. This kept me thinking about a desktop thats totally different from the current windows clones and is totally a reflection of real life. I recollect Rajeev demonstrating a file browser like that in the wireless LUG meet. Later when I met Krish, he told me about gnowsis http://www.gnowsis.org/ but I just visited their site today and find that it still has standard interfaces and is more dedicated to relating data rather than an innovative interface to access data. So how about a totally different desktop that actually looks like a real life situation. For example, it will have simple but large and realistic looking icons for letters/envelopes = email, documents = office suite, music system = music player, television = movie player etc. Now come the main part. There should be no windows as we use today. An email program should open up graphics of a full size page with a pen on it. The user only types on that page and then presses an adjacent big button that reads 'Put letter in envelope'. Then the letter folds itself and puts itself inside a big envelope. The envelope then faces the user waiting for an email address. The email address appears as its typed and in bold letters across the envelope. Then the user chooses from 2 big buttons that read 'Post this letter' or 'Post it later'. If 'Post this letter' is selected, the envelope will drop itself inside a big red post box. Similarly, a real life photo graphics environment can be used in place of windows for office, music, video and other applications. While all this may look very silly for us, it will be a big boon for those users who feel intimidated by computers and dislike the window environment. I am sure there are projects going on in this direction but if we can be first in linux to do it, it will give linux a quantum leap into home desktops. Since linux is secure, once a firewall is running, linux will not even need an anti-virus to constantly update. This system in other Indian languages should become very popular with the rural population who has no knowledge of computers or even those who are semi literate. problem with ubuntu

Dear all, I wonder if this problem was caused by tinkering with Firefox's settings to enable quicker browsing. Now the entire Ubuntu OS has become unstable. I get the following error message during booting: /dev/hda7: unexpected inconsistency; Run fsck manually... An automatic file system check of the root file system failed..... A manual fsck must be performed, then file system rebooted.... so how to perform manual fsck? also there is something about badblocks on the Internet. Do these certifications have content that build up a strong foundation for the candidate who opts for a such a ceritification? For example, if Mr. X knows addition of two numbers then a. He can add five numbers by adding two at a time (i.e. 1+2+3+4+5 will be added as (1+2)-> (3+3) -> (6+4)... b. RHCE certification

Hello all, I wonder if this is the appropriate forum to post my query. I'm Linux newbie, very much interested to learn and share about Linux. I have heard about RHCE certification being one of the hottest in 2006. Seeking advice if joining a coaching class at RH authorised centre is MANDATORY which I think charges quite a bit. I wish to know if any of you is RHCE certified but gained the training elsewhere thru a friend/ Linux expert in Mumbai at comparatively lower cost. If so, please let me know the contact person.
