The broad agenda is to build an open platform for book-sharing in the city. A few artist's organizations have come together as the Umbrella group to collaborate on spaces and projects. As part of this, we plan to index all the books in our various collections, and enable access to them. We're using http://openlibrary.org to enter data about the books and associate them with groups / people that own them. The plan is, to start with, build a simple website to find books you're looking for and who to contact to get access to them, using the openlibrary.org API, but is completely open to ideas to facilitate sharing of things, both digital and analog. The event also marks solidarity with Aaron Swartz. [3] If this seems interesting, bring your laptop / coding device and come - wifi, food and beer shall be provided. Serious Problems With USB Controller in Raspberry Pi

It seems like the usb controller used* *in Rspberry pi SOC (Broadcom BCM2835) has some serious issues , since it can only supply low amount of current to its USB devices (Approximately 140 mA). This will cause continues restart of RPI specially while connecting USB Network Card, USB Modem or GPS devices. This may be a bug in USB driver, which has not fixed yet and may not be an easy task because : (Ref: http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/12/08/24/2228251/serious-problems-with-u… ) 1) Documentation on the Broadcom USB controller is proprietary and is not made openly available by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. 2) The USB core for the Broadcom SoC was bought from a 3rd party, and we are told that not even Broadcom has full documentation, nor understands the driver. 3) The Foundation has discovered that the controller and its driver expect realtime response from the ARM core, and if Linux's non-realtime scheduling doesn't respond in 1 ms, a split transaction USB event can be dropped. Not surprisingly, this occurs regularly and produces lost mouse clicks, stuck keyboard keys, etc.. -- Siji Sunny

[OT] Recommendation for Wi-Fi AP.

Greetings, I am looking for Wi-Fi AP that: 1. Is stable (does not require frequent reboot or power OFF/ON) 2. Supports 802.11 b/g/n 3. Supports up to WPA2-Enterprise (RADIUS auth) - a *must* 4. Has external Antenna Desirable - Accepts DD-WRT / OpenWRT images. Many list members may be using these Wi-Fi features in their own office / home and I would appreciate if you could share you experience. Please mention brand/model. PS - There are lot of brands claiming features and performance. Unfortunately, they can be verified only after one has purchased such an unit. In the past, I have used Linksys and Buffalo. Linksys has been OK but with internal antenna, range is suspect (at least in my experience). The Buffalo APs, on paper have great feature and few models do accept DD-WRT firmware. However, I have had heating issues - over a period of time the WLAN would disappear. The only way I could solve it was to power them OFF, let it cool and then power them ON. Buffalo was great in the RMA dept. but the brand new replacements had the same problem. TIA, -- Arun Khan

Ubuntu Global Jam Mumbai 2013 for Ubuntu Raring Ringtail

Hi, Firstly, sorry for cross-posting but I do not know which list is currently being used by everyone. It's time for another Ubuntu Global Jam! This time, it is for the Ubuntu Raring Ringtail (13.04) cycle. Since this is too early for an official announcement, I will update this thread when the Ubuntu Loco website opens up for UGJ registration. Tentative Dates: 15 March 2012, 16 March 2012 and 17 March 2012 Venue: Directiplex, Andheri (W), Mumbai Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all the days There is nothing planned on these days as of yet. I am looking for suggestions. Come and fix bugs, test the new OS installation process, fix documentation etc. Specifically, I am hoping that we can fix Ubuntu bugs and forward the patches upstream.
