Hi Luggers,
The best way to get CS students excited about linux is to let them know how students in other countries(esp. US/Europe) have embraced linux. For them, writing a doubly linked list program on dos/windows is a very big thing coz they haven't had any exposure to anything else as yet. If we can make them realize that it is actually "fundu" to do programming in *nix rather than on windows then their perception would change. It would be a waste to dump them with technical knowledge before they imbibe the concept of open source software.
In my college (Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Tech. University, lonere) very few people dabbled in linux. And we were ridiculed by others as being 'not cool'. coz for them programming in windows on turbo c++ was everything.
Thus the understanding and liking for open source development has to be developed first. If that is done then there would be no need for any other workshop as these students will learn everything else by themselves.
Cheers :-)

Hello Luggers...;)
This time around i write to get the ball rolling for the upcoming gnu-linux workshop being conducted @ the Rajaram Bapu College of Engineering.
I proposed to conduct this workshop for a period of 2 days in the 1st week of Next month, most probably on a SAT-SUN.
I would like the following from Volunteers on this Mailing list.....
--> The Workshop is being conducted for Engineering Students.....so considering the efforts to be put in from an academic perspective i would encourage u luggers to put forth TOPICs/Ideas that these Students could make use of.
