VLC is really cool tool. But I found problem running vlc videos on IE. Also on firefox with windows you need to install VLC player with Mozilla plugin selected.
You probably aren't using the correct output stream. I'd suggest using HTTP or RTP (Realtime) for proper streaming under destination options. Also, check the Transcoding to get the correct A/V codecs for target device. IE and FF can handle only certain stream / codecs natively.
