Hi,
I just wanted to share my experience so that those who are new to gnu/linux like me can use it better.
I have an 80 GB hard disk. I had 9 partitions in it. I use both windows and linux. I was using WinImage to create a virtual hard disk and i ruined my partition table. I have a lot of data in my hard disk so I somehow wanted to recover. I googled. I was continuously getting same kind of solution. Noting down the Partition start and end address and creating it again exactly. Since I lost my partition table completely that solution was of no use to me. Then I found an utility called gpart in the live cd (Slax KillBill) (I use a couple of live cds). Using gpart I was able to rebuild my partition table. though I lost one partition(and some important data). Its unbelievably good that it uses some way of determining the start and end address of filesystems in partitions and rebuilds the partition table almost perfectly.
For a newbie like me, it was a great experience and i learnt that gnu/linux can do wonders if u know how to use it.
Regards, Raj
