What about gaim or Kopete? You dont develop you told me the other day. I guess then RH9 is perfect for your needs. One more thing. You need not upgrade from the 2.4 kernel as long as your devices work. Whatever anybody says, 2.4 kernel is awesome. Its very stable and there are no magical improvements in the 2.6 kernel that will suddenly turn your machine into a supercomputer. So stay away from switching to the 2.6 kernel if everything works fine.
