Recently i saw hp officejet pro printers being used very economically with regard to refilling printer ink in the cartridge. Essentially a one litre bottle of ink costing just 600 to 700 rupees was connected via flexible tubing to the cartridge. The bottle used to last the office for almost an year's printing ink needs.
HP makes the warranty void on printers that have refilled or other cartridges. Some of their photosmart printers are sensitive to refilled cartridgs and the printer konks off. One of my clients had a photosmart All--in-One with six cartridges costing about 15K?. They used to refill them as the original set was expensive. After a few refills, the PSC would just give an error for calling maintainence. Before calling HP, I tried a few tricks based on suggestions on the net but no result. Finally when the HP guy arrived, he found out the refilling ( new originals were put back before calling them ) via some embedded chip inside and warranty was void. The bigger shock came when even as paying customers, they were told that a bigger part inside was gone and not available. The local printer repair guy then saw it and confirmed that the part to be replaced would be about Rs. 6000/-. He suggested buying a new printer as it would not be worth it. The way the printer has gone kaput, even the scanner cannot be used.
So please be careful when playing with expensive printers. Go for the Ink-Advantage series for economy in cartridges.
