Well they finally did it and a beta is out already -
A quick review - 1. Its fast and returns good results 2. Its still (beta) heavy ( 13 MB footprint in memory ) as compared to windows counterpart. 3. Its very responsive and easy to use. 4. The directories it searches by default is pretty good. 5. Extensible with other plugins. Am not sure how many plugins will work with the linux one. 6. Works with Ubuntu ( the favored one these days ) and rh/sles. 7. Bad bad thing - closed source. They should really find way to wrap their algorithms than closing off the entire app.
Beagle with its mono bindings was a bit too slow for me ( i could hear my laptop hdd whir ). And trackerd with catfish was more than tricky to configure for any relevant results.
So as of now google desktop wins the competion ( was there one ?) despite its flaws.
whats your take on it ?
