Whenever you have problems of booting from CDs, always cross check the same CD on other systems.

Thanks for the tip, i used the same hard disk on another system , booted with the same CD ( cent OS ) .... and it didn't give me any issue !! .... it seem to be a RAM issue on my previous system !! i guess !! cause the complete error was
RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0 crc error VFS: Cannot open root device "<NULL>" or unknown-block (253,0) plese append a correct "root=" boot optiion kernel panic -not syncing: VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknow-block (253,0)
........ any tips on how to check a defective RAM
The K/Ubuntu live CDs have a memory test option. Clean your RAM contacts with a *pencil* eraser. Don't use an ink eraser or else the gold plating will get rubbed out. Press the RAM in again with a perfect 'click' at both ends.
BTW, it does not matter if the hard disk is present or not in a CD boot, till you actually begin the installation to the disk. If live boot fails only in a particular system, it can be due to the motherboard not being GNU friendly.
