Hi, It seems you haven't configured tns listener properly. check your listener.ora file see whether same oracle SID or instance name is ued which u have created while installation.

I had installed Oracle8i on redhat 8(kernel 2.4 ,Glibc 2.2). but it gives some problem while creating database When I make an attempt to create the database it gives an error "TNS listener not started" And when I start the "TNS Listener" it gives the message that it has been already started
