All of us who use the mailing list have either come accross the nuisance of top-posting, or have been *scolded* by others on the list for top-posting and other non-compliance of email etiquettes. But I guess it is better we understand/explain WHY we need to follow these guidelines.
Admins can the welcome email to new members include http://db.glug-bom.org/wiki/index.php/Mailing_List_Etiquette
I recently read a series of blog posts [0] Aaron Toponce on whats and whys of email etiquettes. Hope it will help everyone understand this issue better.
Bottom posting is as daft as top posting. Now you have to read all the irrelevant stuff at the top to understand what the reply was about. When on a mailing list interleaving and trimming is necessary. Remember that all the junk you dont trim chews up bandwidth of each individual recipient.
While on the topic of mail servers, imagine the waste merely because users are too stupid or lazy to figure out what is good for them.
