I can't offer much insight but HTH.
i just got a 20GB disk and installed redhat 7.2 with ext3 fs on one of the extended partitions.
Do you have a primary partition for swap space? I don't know about the latest releases but 6.0 couldn't use extended partitions for swapping.
yes actually, but since then i have reinstalled on the primary partition.
I've been using only primary swaps since.
Once I had specified more VRAM than I had and that too caused hang-ups, so another thing to look at.
is this a problem with ext3 ?????
Ext3 has been working marvellously for me since 7.2 appeared and has survived a handful of outages. I've got two machines with uptimes between 30 - 45 days.
i think the problem was with linux trying to use dma on the harddisk. My earlier installation didnt use dma because it wasnt working with the previous harddisk. this one again works, but hangs frequently. sorry i hadnt checked the logs before it reported dma errors. i think its some problem with my VIA motherboard!
anyway works fne without dma.
