Learning tc is bit too steep.
Maybe you should switch to non-linux stuff then? Command line is king though - irrespective.
"RTFM" or "just google" kind of responses do NOT help the person
It helps more than anything else u may be able to ever tell him. U will do (or will have done ) precisely this to provide the answer. Teach a man to fish etc. etc.
asking the question... reading such responses makes another 20 people unsure (for the fear of getting snubbed) if they should indeed ask a question...
and if this keeps goin on.. this mailing list could soon be dead... there would just be a few "ultra-geeky"
Hmm.. does not seem so since the last 5 yrs atleast. If any thing members seem to be growing. It also makes clear that newbie is doing himself a favour by using linux. Also along with the usual RTFM / Google response there will be someone answering the question - a fair balance imo.
If you are tempted to write RTFM/Google to some query.. I'd suggest you don't respond at all.. If you cannot help, the next best thing to do is to "NOT offend"... and its not difficult..
Agree with the 2nd but not the first. RTFM is the conerstone of the selfhelp edifice.
