yes but that is because of automount i want to run scripts automatically i dont want to see the directory contents in a file manager window but to run a script inside that directory. i know it might require root login to run any such script because of security issues but assuming root login can this be done, if so how?

In RH7.3 (which I no longer use) the redhat CD's used to be autodetected in the GUI mode and an software installer used to start. Also in KDE the file manager opens automaticatically for CDs.
